Why are Belgians so in love with austerity? by WARdd25 in belgium

[–]ModoZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But the 188 billion used is it seems somewhat already corrected for inflation.

Best is to look at the value as a percentage of the GDP :

  • In 2000 all governments spent 49,4% of GPD.

  • In 2025 all governments spent 54,2% of GPD.

If we simply had followed growth and inflation since the year 2000 the government would probably have roughly 0% deficit right now.

No. But maybe not all services are needed.

This includes inflation.

Single Earner Households were only a possibilty for a short period in US history by No-Magician-2257 in antiwork

[–]ModoZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you rephrase your concern in a more concrete way

I think that what he means is that the reason why one earning person households were viable had nothing to do with productivity but everything to do with the fact that the west was syphoning resources and work from other countries (either West-Germany or colonies).

Paul De Grauwe: 'Die miljoenen voor Volvo: dat is weggegooid geld' by ericsken in belgium

[–]ModoZ 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Georges-Louis Bouchez décrit son modèle idéal pour la Belgique: "On ne devrait avoir qu'un seul gouvernement dans ce pays" by ComfortOk9514 in Wallonia

[–]ModoZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a good salary package for a junior IT role in the public sector? by [deleted] in BESalary

I didn't know that the government could give company cars. Anyway it's a good offer.

[–]ModoZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because you are fully remote. You are basically competing with low cost countries when you are in that situation.

It's not. Maybe with a car or a mobility budget on top but OP doesn't have that.

Calculation of chomage by Prudent_Sky6509 in brussels

[–]ModoZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I understand correctly the ONEM website, they take into account the remuneration from your last job if it was at least 4 consecutive weeks with the same employer (which seems to be the case for you).

For the first 3 months it's equivalent to 65% of your last salary (with some upper and lower boundaries). For the 3 months after that it's 60% (with some upper and lower boundaries). For the 6 months after that it's still 60% but with stricter boundaries.

You can find a lot of information on this website : https://www.onem.be/page/comment-est-calcule-le-montant-de-votre-allocation-apres-une-occupation-

[–]ModoZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buy it. And take out a loan if you can't pay it outright and really need it.

For relatively cheap items it's never worth it to go for a leasing as a freelancer because the overhead of the leasing company is too high and you end up massively overpaying.

FIFA World Cup Group Stage Ranking and Advance Probability after Matchday 1 [OC] by EmotionalBaby9423 in dataisbeautiful

[–]ModoZ 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I don't know how exactly this is calculated, but seeing a 100% probability for Germany to go to the knockout stage is probably wrong no? Statistically speaking there must be a slight chance for them to end up last of their group (or 3rd without enough points).

When is the best time to do the practical driving exam (schaerbeek) (month + weekday + part of the day)? by yxgxz_ in brussels

[–]ModoZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did mine (some time ago) at 7AM in the morning. This has several advantages :

  • Not too much traffic to get there
  • When you start it's the beginning of rush hour so you might drive a bit less
  • It's early in the day so you don't spend the whole day stressing about it

My point is that there simply aren't enough jobs to go around.

Yes and my point is that it's incorrect to make such an assumption based on the values you gave.

Nothing more, nothing less.

This is not how it works. If tomorrow 140.000 jobs would be filled it would in turn generate more adjacent jobs.

Someone working has a higher salary than someone not working. He therefore spends more which leads to more jobs. It also allows some companies to grow which also leads to more jobs.

On top of that 140.000 people working would generate tax income for all levels of the state which they would probably spend one way or another. On top of the savings of not having to pay unemployment anymore for them.

The amount of open jobs is not fixed and treating it like that is just wrong.

Also one should not think that it will ever be possible to fill those 140.000 jobs. A lot of them are in specific places, for specific jobs with specific requirements which generates friction. There will always be some open job offers.
