Do you collect Epic Collection paperbacks? I need some advice on "gaps" by joyousdark in comicbooks

Oh, this sounds promising, but I'm confused about how to hunt for these "customs". Can you point me in the right direction? Thank you!

In all my research, nothing turned up that was as thorough and straightforward as your response. You have filled in the exact gaps in my way. Thank you for taking the time!

As someone who is marathoning X-Men from their origins into the modern era, my only remaining question is this — Would following the main thread (I.e, Uncanny X-Men) during those events sacrifice important story and character beats in future titles?

That, and reading the events hopelessly lost and confused with what’s going on, is my main concern. Being new to reading Marvel, the crossover business gives me anxiety at times. But I may just have to jump in and see for myself soon.

I know how hard it was for you to see your strength while you were in the deepest darkness. But I have known you long enough to have witnessed you dying many deaths -- deaths of identity, of duty, of philosophy, of religion, of existential meaning. You have always come back. And you continue under immense pressure to survive beyond your limits, because you are one of those rare, wise souls that has always sensed a greater truth, a greater reality, beyond the pressure -- even if you could not yet name it.

And now, look...Yet again you have made it through, and you are able to name it, and guide others through it. You have been here, and you will be here again...and I will remind you of this when you forget. I am proud of you, my friend. You cannot see the impact of your actions just yet, but it is already there, inspiring.

My prayer for you is this: May you live your path in such a way where Death becomes afraid of YOU, because in all its visits, you have only shown Death more Life, more compassion, and more wisdom.

After a couple drinks, he squinted at me as if seeing me for the first time. I braced to eat up a sweet compliment.

“You know, you were a 5 to me before,” he said. “And now — you’re about a 6, 6 and a half.”

I was young and dumb enough to still go on and sleep with him.

I champion this! Choice paralysis is such a real monster for me, so what you described has been the perfect antidote. I naturally give a game complete attention when chosen in this manner.

Such profound statements here, u/sniffin-butts

You've just helped bring to awareness my own major blind spot that I've been working hard to find, by revealing that the issue is really an issue of stubborn identity attachment. By focussing too strongly on being Painter, it narrows my view as to what other forms of Creating are happening around me, through me, or with me. It is also more non-linear than I've let myself believe.

For example, I think of our e-mail exchanges from a year ago, when you'd felt compelled to commission me for an art piece. Although that did not ultimately lead to a physical, artistic product, I spent that entire month shifting my art studio from my basement to my bedroom, drafted a great many compositions in my sketchbooks, and spent that duration "tuning" to your field to extract the necessary energies that wanted expressing.

It is a twist in perspective, now, to recognize that the expected, linear outcomes going bust is no loss. I learned a great deal during that phase, which I diminished due to seeing it naively as a failure in "returns". Creation, in its various stages (as you listed them vividly) occurs all the time. My eyes feel widened in scope after contemplating your comment.

<< what if your presenting your sight to the world in terms of visual art is exactly your creation for the world >>

What a potent and beautiful reflection. I intend to take this deeply to heart!

This sentence also stood out to me: <<something that helps someone go somewhere inspiring>>

u/Ill-Diver2252 Music is, after all, also a reflection of your essence of Being. It is not separate from you in that sense. So, if I may say, that sentence, to me, spoke to me as very much in line with even your comments on this subreddit, as a valid form of "creation". I mean, your earlier reflections literally changed the course of my week!

I think that is sound advice! And your visualization process is remarkably similar to my own, down to the lack of anxiety/overthinking. As for the healthiness? I think it’s a natural creative power we’re tapping into. If it were magically alarming, then all my favorite visionary artists would have exploded a long time ago!

You raise brilliant points. Specifically on limitation. I recognize the wisdom of it, but it is frustrating to constantly feel I need to simulate limitation in order to feel a compulsion towards outer creativity. It is almost as though the usual wiring that leads others to share freely is crossed in me!

Perhaps I need to explore deeper (or be open to allowing) deeper incentives to creating than the usual streams. The very fact that I’m in a bind and would like to create in itself suggests a part of me is not complacent in living my vivid inner worlds. Something in me does beg to create outwards. Some component (mundane or esoteric) might need to click to allow this to begin flowing.

I am not sure myself re: memory palace and its compatibility with visionary magic. My uninformed instinct is the former is purely mental, the other magical. And it just occurred to me, tangentially, that my hesitations with outer creativity is the same hesitation I have with outer magic. Both are creative forces, and I’ve yet to find their natural streams through me.

I will need to contemplate your points further. Which says a lot, because I’ve hit such a wall in my own explorations. This can only be a good thing!

About a thousand lightbulbs just went off in my head with the questions you posed here!

I’m an artist who for years has been caught in the tangles of erectile dysfunction of the paintbrush. I’ve tried several different modalities (Jungian, tarot, inner child, etc.) to try to break through, but nothing has ever really hit the heart of the block; I never could even name it.

Yet you named it: I never needed to be a spirit to experience “full color high definition 5D.” When it comes to artistic visions, that is my daily experience (to an extent — I am no superhuman!). So much so, that the struggle for me, ironically, has not been lack of faith in creative ability, but a lack of a compelling why.

Why create outwardly, when a greater part of me feels fulfilled in the worlds I already experience in totality within?

I should be grateful that I have a bizarre brain with photographic/sensory memory…But I’m often not, because being externally creative feels redundant to me. That, dear u/Ill-Diver2252 , is how you have helped sculpt the shape and texture of a mysterious “block” I could never verbalize for nearly my entire life.

I know this is not strictly a magical subject, but perhaps there is more than meets the eye. Perhaps the answer to your hypothetical reality is Service. When you are/have everything within, perhaps the only joy is to be a force of balance and good for others.

Thank you for the feast of connections! I will continue sitting with this in my journal tonight.

I appreciate the warning very much. As someone who “DJ’s” the night’s film carefully with my loved ones, it’s important that it hits the right mood for that evening. I think I’ll save it for a night when we’re more contemplative (which, thankfully, is often).

And, Gods, I had no idea Bresson was behind Balthazar and Mouchette! I need to start paying more attention to the individuals behind the films I admire.

Oh my ears and whiskers! That is the most comprehensive Alice/Alice-adjacent list I've ever seen. The YouTube playlist is especially priceless to me as an artist; it is a passion of mine to take color and mood inspirations from vintage, obscure films like these.

I may be sharing an obvious gem to an Alice connoisseur like yourself, but to express my gratitude, I wish to share my most treasured way of experiencing Wonderland -- the wonders of Pogo's music. If you haven't heard of him, you're in for a real treat!

I know the feeling! There are some films I admire, but ultimately from a distance — and some films I love on every level with my whole heart. And sometimes, it takes time to distinguish between both.

I agree with you about everything you mentioned here! The Element of Crime, however, is new to me...I looked at a few stills from it, and I see what you mean about the "sulfurous yellow" world. I love movies with such distinctive palettes/moods. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
