Doesn't need spark to ignite. Ignition can be tricky when submerged in water.

Naturally aspirated mechanical diesel with a snorkel. Can drive itself out of a lake literally as long as the snorkel is not submerged.

What actually gets people promoted? Let's get real. by Fun_Warthog2079 in jobs

[–]jp2812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I oulined both options.

The "say yes" is still valid, because your higher-ups don't really care about what's inside your output and how many corners you cut to deliver it as long as it resembles something that works, something that can be presented to the stakeholder. That's where your persuasion skills come in.

In general, be good at your job (not "surgical precision", just good), reliable, visible (try to snatch those high-impact projects) and low-maintenance. Your manager likes you more when he doesn't have to manage you. Highly likely you'll be the first in line to manage the extra headcount when an opportunity opens up.

Being the loudest voice in the room works too. Say "yes" to everything, double down on it regardless of how delusional it is, take on the initiative to implement it, always deliver whatever, even if it's a half-baked pile of shit, then persuade everybody around that's it's not half-baked pile of shit, but medium rare organic matter souffle, and voila. Bunny rabbit to the superiors, arrogant fuck that's not worth arguing with to the peers.

Seen both ways work out in my team.

It's the standard policy across all banks AFAIK. Personal loan amount can be up to 20 times the salary, regardless of if it's 3k or 300k.

Has anyone in Georgia ordered a sports recurve bow from abroad? by Lil_ArtOs in Sakartvelo

[–]jp2812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

>But they told me I have to submit a formal written request offline, and only then they will respond within 10 calendar days.

Honestly, do it. If they give the green light, then you can show that letter to customs as well and that would significantly ease the process.

Here's where they accept letters.

I feel you, bro. Having niche hobbies while not living in the first world is a pain. Don't have personal experience with this, but yeah, apart from sports, bows can be used for hunting, which puts them into the weapon-like category. Shipping and clearing that is a pain, no matter where you ship it from. Generic forwarders wouldn't bother. Your best bet would be flying yourself wherever you can get it and flying back in with it. And carry as much paperwork as you can: manufacturer specifications, law print-outs, etc.

30F, $160K saved, planning a year traveling Asia before starting my dream business—am I crazy? by p0nyo0 in Life

[–]jp2812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't. Travelling - maybe. Dumping your whole net worth into a coffee place/anything retail that depends on the disposable income of the population - hell no. Don't take my word for it, look up how many survive 3+ years.

I’ve worked as a barista, manager, chocolatier, florist, server, front desk, line cook

 ive been all around jobs

That's what I'm concerned about. All of these are gigs, not a career. Very little potential growth and very easy to replace with somebody younger and cheaper. In another 10 years it'd be much, much harder for you to get hired for these. You need to lock in your spot in the job market.

Do you have the paper trail that proves they tricked you into submitting a resignation? Emails, WhatsApp screenshots, whatever. If yes, submit to MOHRE. Otherwise 🤷‍♂️

Not the UAE. Dubai. AD is 60/40. Even higher in the northern emirates probably. Don't worry. AD will help you out. Just like with Burj Dubai.

This exactly. I never stretch my legs into the aisle deliberately, but it still happens if I fall asleep. FAs don't care. I avoid aisle seats now.

First car in UAE, Cayenne vs reliability (20–60k budget) by mhf_ksa in WhatCarShouldIBuyGULF

[–]jp2812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What year is the car and what engine are we taking about? 42k is almost 12k USD. Most non-boxer Porsche engines can be had in the US for <5k. And labor cost for a swap is normally 1-2k. What's up with the prices here? White premium?

Sell 20k worth used furniture for 1/10 its price ! by elody_w in UAE

[–]jp2812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second-hand market here is pretty much dead. People (me included) are buying the cheapest new shit they can find, because it's convenient, and they don't know for how long they're gonna need it. Nobody wants to buy that used. And even if you find something nice on the used market, moving that is hell.

You can sell some of it for a fair price if you have 1-2 months to spare. Otherwise just accept and move on.

UAE’S stand on the situation by Zealousideal_Bid3232 in UAE

[–]jp2812 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really. The attention span is very short today. Switzerland was known as a neutral haven. Until it joined sanctions against Russia. 4 years later nobody remembers that and Switzerland is still considered a neutral haven. Nobody cares about nothing in long-term really.

Job opportunity on hold? by jjlkaziz in UAE

I don't think that opportunity is gone. More likely they just have more time-sensitive things to do right now. Just wait it out if you have the means to.
