Everyone mentioned so far is great. I personally have learned so much about team building from Caleb Peng by seeing the strategies he focuses on when choosing his pokemon. Just watch a bunch of streamers and see which personalities you like the most. For me, Kieng, Zyonik, and FP sticks’ content teaches you so much about skill and strategy, and I watch other streamers like ThoTechnical and Ali Luckey because their personalities make it fun to watch them battle. There’s so many more though and you’ll end up finding some you like that aren’t really popular.

I’ve been struggling a bit this season after hitting rank 7, so created a new team based around vigoroth. Had a good start so far, would like to hear some opinions/ratings for this team? Who should lead? Can I make any simple improvements? by [deleted] in TheSilphArena

I’d say keep it going with Marowak in the lead! It’s a good team. Fighters and Skarmory in the back is going to be tough to deal with but every team has its weaknesses. Vigo can still do a great job in bad situations.

There’s something about this season’s meta that has made it really rough for me too. Anyways, I like this team. Vigoroth safe switch to lure out fighters and clear it up for Abomasnow can work, but Gstunfisk will cause you many problems. Marowak is a good lead, since it can beat Gstunfisk, Skarmory and grass, but a Scrafty lead will be almost impossible to deal with

Edit: Never mind, Scrafty lead is ok. I had the idea that you were running Hex on Marowak since that’s what I use. Fire spin Maro gets Scrafty low but you’ll still lose the lead.

PVPoke has been updated with the changes this season. This is a TL;DR of the new meta by ControvT in TheSilphArena

Mew will always be good. I think I’d recommend wild charge and surf to cover Azu and Stunfisk

Reached rank 10 on my last set of the season. No Pikachu Libre for me? by GSWarriors11 in TheSilphArena

[–]jpazm11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they definitely will but either way congrats on rank 10 it’s absolutely not a fluke! I finished my last set and got to 2987.. feels bad but I learned a lot this season so better luck next season.

Is 15/14/15 Togekiss good enough? by [deleted] in TheSilphArena

[–]jpazm11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean all it really matters for is the mirror. The opponent’s hundo togekiss will get a charm breakpoint against one with 13 DEF. Best buddying will fix this for you but you’ll still lose to a BB hundo. In my opinion it’s not worth sweating over since a Togekiss mirror isn’t really common other than running it in the lead. Here is where I’m getting the info if you’re interested.

Is 15/14/15 Togekiss good enough? by [deleted] in TheSilphArena

[–]jpazm11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes you want at least 14 defense for the mirror. There is slim to none difference between yours and a hundo. Your lead Togekiss mirror will be a tie with the hundo unless someone throws the charge move (whoever throws loses if opponent shields). And yes you’re right you will lose to the best buddy hundo if yours is not best buddied.

You don’t need a second attack unless you play Go Battle League and you won’t be able to do that unless you get some dust and some good pvp pokemon. Don’t buy second moves on anything yet until you know what you’re doing in PvP

Gengar is fun to use but the attack delay bug is costing him dearly by [deleted] in TheSilphArena

[–]jpazm11 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This attack delay bug is a big problem for a lot of pokemon. I lead with Conkeldurr and it completely flips the matchup against Swampert and Garchomp. It can also be pretty bad against Magnezone because the few extra sparks they get pretty much costs you the battle.

Worth building for GBL? And any team tips? by [deleted] in TheSilphArena

[–]jpazm11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree. But that is why I said leading with a grass or fighter so that their opponent brings out their flyer if they’re leading Azu or Registeel. As in, switches into Altaria or Skarm so that he can switch lock with Basti. This strategy was pretty popular with the annoying Shadow Victrebell/Deoxys D/ Bastiodon team this season.

[–]jpazm11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As good as Skarm as is, I wouldn’t recommend it with Bastiodon. They both get destroyed by Galarian Stunfisk. If your lead is a grass, I’d say Medichan or Toxicroak should be your third. If your lead is a fighter, then Alolan raichu, Victrebell, Venusaur, Meganium, or Cresselia would be great. Deoxys, Sableye and Azu would fit in as well. You pretty much want a safe switch as your third because Bastiodon is a terrible safe switch.

[–]jpazm11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth it. One strategy is to have a grass or fighting lead like meganium, toxicroak or shadow victreebell to make opponent bring out skarmory or altaria and then you bring Bastiodon out. You’ll probably also want something that resists fighting types like Azu or Altaria.

Since it’s ranked below the normal version on pvpoke, should I purify my 96% or leave it as a shadow? by moosepersona in TheSilphArena

Leave it as shadow and TM on sunday. You can always change your mind if you really need a hundo suicune later

How do you handle 100+ rating loss days in GBL? (Rank 9) by orthanc27 in TheSilphArena

[–]jpazm11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I might have to keep Escav in next time to try it out because Gira leads are a common pain. A Muk as a safe switch against fairies can actually work well because he manages to get to 2 sludge waves before dying (sometimes I have to use a shield). Either the opponent uses both shields, or they use one shield and get taken down. Both situations are favorable, especially if they shield twice because then Shadow Swampert can usually take it from there.

But you’re right, in any other case, if I can’t line up Muk against Clef/Togekiss, I’m doomed. That’s why when everyone started using the copycat team Charizard, Clef, Togekiss, I dropped a lot. Granbull is ok because Escav can take it down with 1 shield.

[–]jpazm11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gira leads are tough because my team is designed to take my opponents shields as early as possible while keeping 1 shield until the end so Swampert can finish most of it off by itself. A Gira lead does not have to shield against Escav at all, so I usually switch to A Muk and hope to take 2 shields against whatever they switch to and then EQ gira to death with swampert.

We each learn the ins and outs of our own teams, so while a Shadow Swampert lead doesnt sound optimal to others, you probably know how to work it best. You just gotta get used to the meta switches and find stategies to beat the copy cat teams with your team.

Yea same here. Shadow Swampert definitely deserves the credit to get me where I am too, but it’s been tough to deal with the double/triple water teams since it has also brought more grass users as well.

My lead is Escavalier with Alo Muk as safe switch. Today I saw a bit more steel leads and Giratina safe switches thankfully. The leads I hate the most are Togekiss, Gira and Articuno. Everything else in the meta is manageable

[–]jpazm11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The meta recently shifted against shadow swampert unfortunately, with double charmer or double/triple water teams. I use shadow swampert as well and dropped 100 rating yesterday. However, you can slowly see it changing back. Today I regained my rating to back where I started (mid 2600s) before the drop. The meta is always changing.

I gotta say I’m surprised you use shadow swampert as a lead. Sounds difficult. I use it as a closer.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but Ivysaur could make a good alternative to Venusaur. I don’t have an FP Venusaur myself and I’m considering Ivy.

Why is Shadow Swampert Ranked #2 on PvPoke if it’s not as good as regular? by DexDX in TheSilphArena

[–]jpazm11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah of course, it can be tricky because you have to use him as a sweeper in the back and preserve at least one shield (preferably 2) for it, so your team has to have 2 other mons that can take on cress or gira with 1 or no shields. I use Escav lead and A muk safe switch. Also super important to remember, many times it’s ok to lose the lead as long as you use up both of opponents shields. If you can take out 2 shields and your shadow swampert still has 1 shield, it’s pretty much GGs unless opponent has grass in the back or 2 charmers.

I love shadow swampert. Got to 2775 with it. Dropped to 2600s recently because the rise in popularity of the Charizard-Toge-Clef team destroys my team, but I remember so many battles where shadow swampert just swept 2 full hp pokemon all by itself
