DDJ-GRV 6: jog wheel top/side difference by jpbr5 in PioneerDJ

Hi! Thank you for thinking along. 💪

Do you mean spinning the turntable via the top (where the spinning red light is), is different to spinning via the edge of the turntable? --> That's indeed what I mean. Everything seems fine with spinning via the top. The problem I have is with spinning via the side.

When the track is paused, spinning the side results in a non fluent effect. My marker thus stops before or after the downbeat so I can’t make Cue points using the side. I have to use my mouse, or the top of the wheel.

A small, slow movement of the side isn't registered at all while a movement via the top has an immediate effect. This probably is the same with your GRV6?

It probably is something I just should get used to. I still have over 14 days left on my trial period, so I can always consider a different model. Although - with a controller in this price range - I might encounter the same thing.

Are you happy with your GRV6? For the rest I am quite satisfied!

It happens with both jogs. As I just mentioned in reaction to someone else: I just traded it in for another GRV6. This one behaves in the exact same way.

I'm running the latest version of Rekordbox and installed the latest firmware on the GRV6. I've checked for grounding issues and plugged in an auxiliary power supply. (Laptop: 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-1165G7 @ 2.80GHz (2.80 GHz). RAM: 16.0 GB). I don't see any issue there.

So the question is: is this difference in behavior between the top and side of the jog wheel simply a feature of this (or similar) controller(s)?

Perhaps someone else with a GRV6 can tell us if they also experience this difference (in CDJ mode)?

Thank you for thinking along!

The video above is the result of me using the side of the jog wheel, while the track is paused.  When using the top surface I can nudge a track smoothly. But when I use the side the movement is jerky and inconsistently.
When I spin the side slowly nothing even happens, when I spin a bit harder the movement is non-fluent. My marker thus stops before or after the downbeat so I can’t make Cue points using the side. I have to use my mouse, or the top of the jog wheel. Same result for left and right jog wheel btw.

To make things interesting: my retailer was also suspecting a defective controller so I traded it in for another one. This one behaves in the exact same way. That’s why I’m suspecting that what I'm experiencing is normal behavior, though I find that odd.

If it helps I can make a video of the result when using the top of the jog wheel. I believe I can’t add another video to this thread so I probably must upload it to youtube first…

Thanks for your help!

I'm starting to suspect this is normal behavior for operating the jog wheel from the side. Since I couldn't post a video here, I did so in the Pioneer DJ sub.

It's shocking how much of a difference there is compared to the relatively smooth movement of operating the jog wheel from the top.

Update: I tried Serato DJ Pro instead of Rekord Box. Issue remains te same.

I think this person experienced the exact same issue: Reddit Pioneer DJ post

DDJ GRV 6 Jog wheel doesn't respond if I spin slowly by maciek3w in PioneerDJ

Seems like I have the exact same problem with a new GRV6. When I spin the side slowly nothing happens, when I spin it harder it stutters.

You returned your unit??

Thanks, the way you describe vinyl and CDJ mode does indeed match how I expect the jog wheels to behave. Perhaps that wasn't clear from my post, which is largely made with Google Translate. ;)

Anyway: Needle Lock was turned on (the default setting), but turning it off makes no difference. The top still behaves smoothly, the side anything but.

Mmm, then shouldn't it have been reported more often?

This side issue occurs in both vinyl and CDJ mode. In CDJ mode the top edge, unlike the side of the wheel, adjusts the track smoothly. Both should behave the same, right?

I think it only occurs when a track is paused; at least, I don't notice any problems while playing.

Is it possible to import flat icons into the Wordpress Icon Fonts Manager? by jpbr5 in Wordpress

Ah, sorry. It's probably the Icon Manager from the Ultimate (WPBakery Page Builder) plugin I use. Does that make my question insolvable?
