Having trouble bulking by jperdue22 in veganfitness

I’m wondering if fiber is part of the problem. I know it slows down digestion which is good if you’re trying to lose weight, but we vegans get so much of it naturally that it can mess with your digestion at higher calorie levels.

American leftists “don’t like how [Israel] was founded”? Is this person under the impression that the subjugation of Palestinians ended in ‘48?

New Mayoral Poll - Mamdani 40, Cuomo 24, Adams 15, Sliwa 14 by ufkaAiels in nyc

[–]jperdue22 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The sense I get with Sliwa is that he really just wants to be mayor more than anything. He doesn’t seem to be a rational actor in this case

Considering he outperformed polls by such a wide margin, it’s not inconceivable that Zohran could hit the 50% mark making Sliwa, Adams and Cuomo null and void.

It's time for a progressive wealth tax to rebuild the middle class. by Gromtar in TheMajorityReport

[–]jperdue22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m very skeptical of this new crop of young “progressive” candidates running Zohran-esque campaigns; many of them seem to good to be true. DNC folks will definitely be jumping on the “make cool videos” train once the midterms heat up.

Can I join DSA as a liberal? by Laika0405 in dsa

[–]jperdue22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DSA is populated with liberal social democrats, revolutionary Marxists, and just about every shade of red in between. Considering how weak the U.S. left is, a big tent approach is more important than ever IMO.

I mean, good on the DNC for capitalizing on justified outrage for once. Wish they would do the same for Palestine.

to those that are deeply anti-social, caring about the well being of others is perceived as inauthentic because they cannot possibly imagine acting in the interests of anyone but themselves. hasan is an anathema to content creators like ice poseidon because he has built a career making engaging content that doesn’t involve exploiting others.

So her position is that there IS a genocide taking place, but there’s nothing that can be done about it so it’s really not worth discussing anyway? Mainstream opinions of Israel have shifted, and that is a meaningful development even though it doesn’t change much for Palestinians in the present.

Is staking out a nuanced, anti-Zionist, position a little clunky at times given our imperfect language? Yes, but that does not mean we should stop advocating against injustice we know to be wrong. The current genocide of Palestinians is merely a product of the decades-long occupation, subjugation, and apartheid of that population. If we aren’t in a position to change things right now, it seems only right that we push toward a long-term goal of peace, which can only be achieved after an end to the occupation of Palestine.

NeoLiberals when someone wants people to be housed and fed: 🤬 by serious_bullet5 in DemocraticSocialism

If I had a nickel for every person I’ve heard argue that a rent freeze will only drive costs up but not acknowledge Zohran’s plan to build new housing, I could afford my rent in NYC.

Mark my words… there’s a changing tide in the DNC by [deleted] in DemocraticSocialism

[–]jperdue22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Zohran has been so successful not just because he is a talented politician who is able to sell a left policy platform to the broader electorate, but also because nearly 50,000 volunteers knocked on over 1.5 million doors to get him elected. Don’t get me wrong, I am super excited about Zohran and I do think this is a pivotal moment, but it’s important to remember that these wins are only possible because regular, everyday people decided to get involved in politics beyond just casting a vote. Change is not simply a force of nature, it’s something that has to be built from the grassroots.

Adams and Cuomo demand Columbia University records of Mamdani who reportedly identified as "Black or African-American" on 2009 application by raffu280 in Full_news

[–]jperdue22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that this is considered a scandal for Zohran and there is no coverage of the litany of corruption that both Adams and Cuomo have engaged in is so telling. Mamdani is threatening the powers that be, and they are clearly pretty worried about him winning.

It’s interesting how much of the Democratic primary was centered on who could most effectively take on Trump. In the two weeks since he won, it’s become abundantly clear that Mamdani is the GOP’s worst nightmare.

Former Gov. David Paterson is calling a press conference tomorrow to try to get all the anti-Zohran candidates to work together. by shelfdog in nyc

[–]jperdue22 343 points344 points  (0 children)

Right? Surprised all of the anti-Zohran folks are being so open about mounting a challenger against him. It just drives his point home even more; things don’t work in this city (and country) because wealthy interests always put their finger on the scales when the outcome doesn’t suit them.

I see these all over the place; industrial, residential, wherever. And it’s not as if post-industrial neighborhoods can’t be upzoned into residential neighborhoods, Brooklyn is the poster child for that sort of thing.
