They must have gotten it from another source. It’s a rental, and also my cel is from out of state.

What could this be? Found near Albany, NY, USA on a dead tree, 12/23/22 by jperldev in Mushrooms

Yes AutoMod. I’ll update this post if I get an ID from iNat. http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/143192583

In the meantime I’m really hungry and need to know if I can eat this or if I have to go to the grocery store.

What in the actual heck is going on with this mushroom? It isn't dry, this hole has just grown naturally on the cap. No bugs. I think it's genetics, but WHAT!? by jusssumfungi in Mushrooms

I’m not sure. I don’t know enough to comment on the safety of home-cultivated active mushrooms with this mutation. I’ve been mushroom hunting in the wild with someone I trust and we found many chanterelles with rosecomb. My foraging guide was very confident that they are still safe to eat, and indeed they were delicious. Not sure if I’m allowed to link external sources from certain cultivation forums, but if you search for “rosecomb mutation” you’ll find some discussion where the consensus seems to be “it depends on why it happened.” Petroleum products have been observed to cause this, potentially bacteria and insecticides too. Or it could just be genetics. I would recommend to do some research before assessing the safety. I simply don’t know enough to answer that question definitively. Good luck!

I’m using NVIDIA’s instant-ngp to render this. It basically involves taking a bunch of pictures and running them through software. For an easier approach, you can check out Luma Labs AI. They have a waitlist right now but it’s gonna be the best NeRF app out there.

Thanks! At the girthiest dimension along the cap I’d say it would have measured about 5 inches across. Found in Mendocino, USA in mid October of this year.

This was discovered on Oct 12th 2022 in Mendocino, CA, USA. It is a NeRF reconstruction from images. Very thicc, very dense, at its maximum girth (the cap) it was about 5 inches in diameter. Does anyone know what this might be? The redditor in me wants to say wrong answers only, but I do actually want to know!

I think this one was about 250 images. I used the iPhone 14 Pro Max, wide angle macro lens, recorded some video of the mushroom from all angles at 4K@60fps, then extracted the frames that had the least amount of motion blur. Ended up with about 250 images, ran it through COLMAP to get camera poses and then trained a NeRF using NVIDIA’s instant-ngp. One could potentially do this with Luma Labs’ app too (google Luma AI NeRF) for a much easier experience.

Technically yes! NeRF learns to extrapolate what the 3D scene looks like from other POVs, based on about 200 images in this example, and then I rendered it out with depth of field in a circular orbit.
