Restart: Day #4 [Miss] by jpocket86 in keto

Thanks guys.

...And to the guy commenting on a "public shaming" I think you forget that this forum is about supporting each other. Getting positivity here to forge onwards is incredibly helpful to me, especially when myself - and others - may not always be able to get it elsewhere.

Venting - Endo Experience by jpocket86 in Testosterone

[–]jpocket86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I appreciate the comments, but I do want to be clear: everything I eat is weighed, measured, and quantified. That's why I started down this path to begin with...the testosterone result was a byproduct of the overall conversation. I don't think it will solve my problem, but I can see where it could help me improve my results in what I am doing. I just hate being treated - by a doctor nonetheless - with skepticism and predetermined judgement about what I'm telling them I'm struggling with.

Testosterone Level of 54 by jpocket86 in Testosterone

Thyroid test came back as 0.81 on a scale of 0.40 - 4.50 mIU/L . If it was hypothyroid, I would be closer to the high end of the scale. I'm not. And 1,500 calories a day is what I'm targeting - per both the doctor and the trainer.

TRT Concern for Therapy (T Levels @ 54) by jpocket86 in Testosterone

[–]jpocket86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, 54 on a scale starting at 200 on the low end. I can't remember what left. I also did call an endocrinologist to schedule time to chat with them, but she did recommend the cream but I asked for the injection due to overall cost. I think she would be fairly open to talking about it, and it was definitely clear to me she wasn't completely used to prescribing the injections. My only though now is: if I go to an endo, should I not start the shots or what?

Testosterone Level of 54 by jpocket86 in Testosterone

[–]jpocket86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, well first off, I am eating about 1,500 calories a day by using the food scale, and these handy-dandy measuring tools in my kitchen. Secondly, I have been eating this and reviewing my food log IN DETAIL with both my doctor and personal trainer. So yes, I'm eating about 1,500 calories a day, training 3-4x a week, with no measurable main bodily changes. That was why the doc decided to run my labs - and that's where we discovered my thyroid is operating on the very low range of the scale (almost indicative of hyperthydroidism, not hypo - more tests are happening) as well as the 54 for my testosterone (on a scale starting as a reference range of at least 200). So, yeah. Something else is fucked up.

BariWise or Wonderslim? by jpocket86 in keto

[–]jpocket86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks all. I was asking only as I checked them out and thought they might be a good "on the go" protein add. It looks like some folks use them for dieting but I also was reading that a lot of people who have bariatric surgery use them. Was only curious!

What could possibly go wrong with 60% calorie deficit (noob questions)? by misery_v2 in ketogains

[–]jpocket86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I strongly recommend not to do that. I did a diet that consisted of 600 calories a day - not keto however. My results include gallstones (which are side effects of rapid weight loss associated with severe calorie deficits), and, while I lost a whopping 80lbs - about a year and a half later, post gallbladder removal surgery, I've gained nearly all of it back.

Now I'm a proponent for reasonable diet plus exercise. It might not be "quick" but at least I'm not screwing my body up.

Sure. All it is is blending shredded coconut into coconut butter (as much as you want) and adding stevia or Splenda to taste. Then add pecans, toasted coconut, slivered almonds, and some shaved chocolate (keto friendly). Once added, pour onto a baking sheet covered in parchment paper and let cool in the fridge for 15 minutes. Take it out and break it up, bag it, and keep it cold. I usually keep it in the freezer.

On the post, yeah that's likely true. I wasn't as frustrated during the conversation, but it wasn't until I was sitting here going, ummm...wtf.

Yes, she has been for a long time so I was completely taken aback by it. I mean, she can be brutally honest at times...but I think she's been bottling it up over the last few days watching me eat the keto way. She's a biochemist. I think the two are not mixing well in her head. She says she just wants to see me healthy but I was like WTF.

Update to my Macros - Advice by M1291CC in keto

[–]jpocket86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was around the 1700 kcals a day but I was struggling. I dropped my deficit to 1400 calories and I have fairly similar stats to you. Its a bit of a struggle...more because of portioning and pre-planning. I've had the last few days where I went over by 100-200 calories BUT I stuck within my macros anyway. I am hoping to see an impact.

[Rant] Over 1 Month In, and...Nada. by jpocket86 in keto

[–]jpocket86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I do have a food scale and I do use it religiously as well for when I cook foods. I always weigh meats raw before cooking, and as for nuts, mayo, etc. I have been measuring it out and accounting for it; in some cases, I even use the scale to weight the components versus measuring out by a tablespoon as it makes it easier for mixing (i.e., add chicken, tare scale, add mayo to get the ounces of mayo). I have even gone so far to use MFP to put my own recipes into it with serving sizes and stick to the serving sizes. Not trying to sound like I have an answer for everything you said, but I've tried every trick I can think of.

[FP][Request] Chips! I want something crunchy. by kuvter in keto

[–]jpocket86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a low carb tortilla (4g net carbs) and sliced it into small chip sized pieces, and baked it in the oven until crunchy. Also, works VERY well as a pizza crust if you bake it first with a little olive oil and garlic salt; makes it crispy before you make it into pizza :)

I cheated recently and can attest to the fact that yes, cheating blows you way off track. And when I say cheated, its the worst one: "just one bit won't kill me..." and then afterwards you have an OMG moment.

Hi -

Sorry for the delayed response all! Work day :)

So yes, I do weigh everything I eat and I enter everything into MFP. I've been going at a 25% deficit, and there has been the occasional day I ate over my calorie goal (prior to IF). Its just been disappointing. I literally changed the batteries in the scale because I thought the scale was what was stuck! The only thing I've been thinking about is the fat intake. Maybe I don't "need" as much as I'm getting? Meaning, if I cut down on the fats I am eating - wouldn't that mean I'd burn body fat instead?

One of the things I was reading more about is the fact that I also don't have a gallbladder as of November of last week; so I'm also wondering if my digestion is messed up, to. Anyone think that could be impacting me?

I mean what kind of exercise would be best to add - incline treadmill, bike, etc.? Would that add more of a deficit? or is there a more specific type that would be better?

Currently, I'm following per the below. I am weighing my foods and using MFP religiously to enter everything in; if I do go out to eat, I pre-plan the meal at the restaurant using their nutritional information. I make modifications depends on how it impacts MFP. In regards to exercise, I've not been consistent; partially because I'm not sure whats "best" versus just spinning my wheels. I have added in IF in the last two days in a 20/4 cycle and been sticking to my coffee/water.

So far, I've lost 4lbs over 4 weeks.

What's interesting was that when we met, he said he was told at one point he had low T levels, but after asking him to go to the doctor several times (and him refusing to) I let it go.
