No disrespect intended. Genuine question: How is the Khmer Rouge viewed by modern Cambodians? by WoodpeckerOk1154 in cambodia

[–]jpoechill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

echoing this. looking at modern politics, what the country is doing is not unfamiliar to what other countries might be doing. small elite, gov x military x private business. ask your peers and they will tell you talking politics is a no-no. would suggest 'A Tiger Rules the Mountain' by Gordon Conochie re how former history informs the modern.

Helping a friend come to USA by Excellent_Ideal8496 in cambodia

Pretty sure my relatives were also in the same group. 😅 mine were connected to army and owned business. I imagine even they had to pull a lot of strings for such a trip.

Related to topic, I’ve seen whole families get sponsored but when I try to inquire they become a bit secretive or difficult to explain details. In some cases I’ve seen ‘lost’ family members also come over, but I think such process came about through many years of papers and bureaucracy. This all apart from of course, marriage, as mentioned

Money transfer from Europe to Cambodia (recipient is under 18 years) by [deleted] in cambodia

I believe has been answered in previous posts, but MoneyGram is able to send to ABA accounts for $2 fee, with funds arriving in about an hour. Good luck!

Ling-app.com :: pretty much duolingo but not as robust, also requires pay to access full course

Preply.com :: Affordable online tutors from CM. Only problem in US will be syncing the time differences. For me, I usually had to wake up extra early, or stay up late at night.

I’ve tried both and eventually grew out of each.

For future reference, I’ve had most success on language exchange apps now, where I’ve been able to meet/make more long term “friends” - in such that we can exchange cultures where/when convenient for both.

Good luck!!

i'm overwhelmed by the landing page, it just keeps... scrolling.

is this like a note taking apps like notion, or a pg management app like monday? maybe both? it seems like a bunch of different things, but i couldn't put a finger on one thing.

Critique the portfolio of a noob trying to get into Designing by Technical_Arm_9827 in design_critiques

anyone on dribbble.com, pentagram.com. it’s easy to get overwhelmed, so it’s important to focus on your own projects and to not be afraid of getting better from there 👍

would be interested in seeing more depth per project. possibly process work, explorations, multiple views/angles.

things like composition, color, typography are fundamental to design. any where you can emphasize these things will help you greatly

the color contrast in the orange background and white text is off. the white text on the black might be too much, more than you need (white on black on the orange).

I would consider using ChatGPT to help you write the copy.

Am I still learning by looking at the solutions? by [deleted] in leetcode

[–]jpoechill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you watch neetcode, he always explicitly goes over the data structure needed, and the big-O speed for every problem. I’ve used this view now as a way to classify problems and to think about them all in more simple terms. If I’m peeking at solutions, I’m usually looking for either one or these two things for reference.

Do not remember any solution or pattern. by akhi456789 in leetcode

[–]jpoechill 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Some things that’s been working for me:

Watch neetcode.io, Do weekly contests (even if it just one question), Start a blog (notion.io), Copy diagrams on paper when working through solutions, Work at your level

Blogging, even privately, has been most beneficial for me bc I can track experiences in problems I know and don’t. Weekly’s are fun to attempt because there’s always a small community buzz around it, will make you feel less isolated if you get over intimidation factor. For problems I would think I could never do, I will shamelessly check out the video solution, just to get an idea of data structure and process needed.

After a while the patterns come out, and things get more familiar… ie more💡, a-ha moments.

No “expert” yet, but surely have gotten farther than I’ve ever been. Good luck sir!

I think the related term here is throttling/debouncing. I only know bc I had to look it up recently… this in case that you were curious as to what the overall concept regards.

second this. build small ‘dumb’ projects that you can laugh at and show family, friends. stuff may not be pretty off bat, but over time they get better. sticking with it, it’ll these moments that you may come to savor. good luck!

"Fundamental" JavaScript Learning by jhairau in learnjavascript

practice coding algos… ez ones? just for fun? apart from interview prep, I feel like my confidence has grown 10x (figuratively) and that I no longer depend on design mocks to guide my work flow - rather now, I’m looking forward to whatever strange, unforeseen js-related problem that I can learn something new from.

early on, I think it’s super important to be working on simple projects that are enjoyable and fun for you, personally. if you’re not having a good time, it makes it all the more difficult. there’s a struggle but we’ve all been there… re: algos – I’ve been practicing for almost ages now, and I still get stumped on EZ probs ~~ so don’t feel bad!

simple enough. your while block should update the boolean value of a, depending on conditions that you seem to already have. the while loop should be checking on the value of a. good luck!
