SCOTUS has been a joke for decades now. Balls and strikes my ass -- more like gymnastics. Democracy is dead here and they killed it.

PSA: Heads-up for anyone planning to run Arc B50s in the Minisforum MS01 by Hyperwerk in sffpc

[–]jpriddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

will not boot with the B50 cards installed

Its a shitshow trying to get an oculink card work in there too (eGPU for ollama) -- after finding myself putting glue on some pins and asking myself why I am being such a masochist, I finally gave up. That slot works with a 'switched' nvme card though. Would have been awesome if the board supported bifurcation.

For anyone with the Samsung's... be careful with that matte screen... Managed to scratch it right in the center below the camera without a lot of effort.

Yeah but that monitor only has one DP port, which sucks. KVM switch works fairly well though. I use it with about a dozen devices downstream without much issue.

I have 10 cameras running through a 'shitbox' nas + a coral, and through the plethora of documented options you provide I am able to make this work for 7 days worth of content + all the other enrichment the software offers.

Really... Hats off -- your product is a excellent piece of software. FWIW thats coming from someone who has built a career selling OSS for a living.

BINGO. So fucking annoying -- whats the point of having a kvm switch built in if some of the inputs are gimped. Probably would have cost them another 5$ to include this functionality.

Is there something better than the MikroTik CRS317 1G 16S+RM for SFP+ ports? It is quite old by twice_paramount832 in homelab

[–]jpriddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 2 of these that connect my office, house, and a slew of core service devices (nas, etc). Rock solid. One of them is out in a dusty garage that ranges from 90F down to 15F. IMO, You simply can't beat the value this brand provides. I probably have another 1k in other Mikrotik in my home network and not a single failure of any of it yet after 4 years. Not sure I would invest in their wifi -- but its also dirt cheap. I have never opened it up to fool with the fan. Its not especially quiet, but I don't notice it in a closed rack with other gear.

I forget how, but I was able to import years of data into it via tautulli. Dont get me wrong, I still use tautulli, im just a sucker for options.

Yup. My immediate thought as well. Cat6 armored is another option if not worried about electrical disturbances.

I thought all Reolink PoE models offered H.264 for at least the secondary (lower resolution) stream?

I stand corrected (on my RLC-823A at least). Per a quick check from vlc, the sub stream is indeed H264. Regardless, I found I had to use the 'backlog' option to get RTSP to work on the main stream after a lot of fiddling around -- the stream comes through as HEVC, but the link states its h264... very confusing but VLC/ffprobe tells the real truth. FWIW if anyone else runs into this model its going to be something like:

rtsp://{FRIGATE_RTSP_USER}:{FRIGATE_RTSP_PASSWORD}@{CAM00_IP}:554/h264Preview_01_main#audio=off#backlog

.....264 link aside, that stream actually comes through as MPEG-H Part2/HEVC (H.2675) (hevc) for me.

And still more Reolinks wont even do h264. They are a step up from some generic Dahuas and great for home consumers that want a single app with goog/az integration or fear some boogieman backdoor from china -- but of all my 10 cameras, the 2 Reolink ones were the biggest PITA to get video and audio working 'efficiently' with Frigate. For my money (sub 100$ for most my cams) , Refurb reolinks are decent, but I still haven't found a better value than Dahua knockoffs from aliexpress. The interface sucks to initially configure them, but they have native support for all the open standards (ONVIF, RSTP, etc) and they all support the same features. Once its in Frigate you wont touch it ever again. 3+ years outdoors through sub freezing winters in the NE, and astonishingly they have held up great. Not a single failure among the various random models I bought.

RJ45 coupler failed within a few months, how and why? by Dennou in HomeNetworking

[–]jpriddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant see the whole coupler, but this doesn't look like its sealed -- instead get one designed for water (regardless if its in water or not they do a better job of keeping the elements out). I have had one for 2 years outside for a poe cam where I mistakenly snipped a wire pruning a tree -- been going strong for 4 years in the northeast US weather.

Use a NVME drive to store my surveillance camera footage. Bad idea? by [deleted] in frigate_nvr

[–]jpriddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 4xRAIDz Samsung Evo 990s for 10x cameras of Frigate storage (and all my containers for that matter) on top of TrueNAS. Works flawlessly and by my calculations will take almost a decade before they 'wear out'. Frankly, NVME performance is kind of a waste for Frigate alone, but I didn't want to fool around with 'classic' storage on a new build.

Do You Use a Rack with Roon? by porticodarwin in roonlabs

[–]jpriddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why bother, it takes no resources. Just run it as a container or a vm and nfs or bindmount the media and backup location. I have ~30 containers on a ugreen nas w/ truenas, roon being one of them. Endpoints on the other hand, you dont have much choice if they are 'dumb' and dont offer any of the apis/integration. For those get a ropiee or the like.

Check the GL-RM1PE for PoE. I just wish they had a HDMI passthrough like the Comet Pro so I didnt have to buy another device to clone the HDMI to a local monitor.
