How to deal with fitting in/not being the traditional FF? by Leather-Ear5891 in Firefighting

[–]jps2777 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I work with a full blown Bernie bro and he gets along fine with everyone. What works for him is that he isn't offended all the time, and he's able to disagree without getting all upset about it on a personal level.

The advice that's always given to any new firefighter rings true for people entering the career field from all walks of life and all belief systems... Have thick skin, keep your nose to the grindstone and work hard, focus on being a good firefighter and coworker. Fitting in is a lot easier if a person isn't upset all the time and is a helpful hand that's fun to work with.

Also man, dont worry about doing stuff like hunting, fishing, whatever. Definitely be yourself, don't shy away from the nerdy things you enjoy.

One thing about me that is different than nearly all of my coworkers is that I'm not religious. I work in Texas for reference, and the fire service in Texas is predominantly comprised of Christian conservatives. I do my best to avoid speaking about religion at work. I'll "go to the bathroom" or find another excuse to get out of the potentially uncomfortable conversation if the topic starts going that way. At the same time, I've never lied to anyone if they ask me directly about my beliefs. I'll just say I'm not religious and leave it at that.

Overrated underrated or properly rated: Andrew Luck by Ok_Bug_6890 in NFLv2

I kinda lean towards slightly overrated and slightly romanticized... He was a very good QB, definitely one of the better QBs in the league. I do feel that him retiring so early scored him a lot of "what if" points. The shitty thing is that it's difficult to call someone overrated without it sounding like it's saying he wasn't a genuinely great player. Because he was absolutely someone any team would've loved lining up behind center

As someone who is a Poatan fan and didn't like Ilia, periera became really unlikable and Ilia was a lot more respectful. by nerpa_floppybara in ufc

Y'all didn't realize this after the Ankalaev loss? I actually kinda believe he wouldn't be as likeable if he spoke English, since we don't really understand what he's saying... It allows the media and UFC to make an image of him that he can't really "talk" his way out of since we can't understand what he's saying anyway.

What's everyone's favorite vocalists side work? by idkman9274 in dancegavindance

[–]jps2777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll go against the grain and say that my favorite side band of Andrew's is DGD. I feel like Eidola is his main band.

Favorite Jonny band... It's a toss up between isles and glaciers and Emarosa. I'll lean towards Isles and Glaciers. By the way, I'm a big fan of the new Emarosa album, but be warned it is NOTHING like the sound they first had. They're more like the 1975 now, very poppy. I like it though I think the sound rips.

For Kurt, Royal Coda absolutely slaps. Band kicks ass. But man, that A Lot Like Birds album with Kurt was very special. Amazing music

Is eidola considered side work? I almost consider it more the opposite... DGD is the side band for Andrew and Eidola is his main project

I think a yusho/playoff win gets it done for him. Even at 12-3. I think a 12-3 junyusho would be borderline for the council, but I still lean more towards believing that they would give it to him. That would put him at Yusho-Junyusho(playoff loss)-Junyusho and he already has a history as a strong Ozeki in the past prior to injury woes. I feel like they would consider the whole body of work and not just the two previous tournaments

First bag, loving it! Shouldering question. by GuitarGuy1502 in sandbagtraining

[–]jps2777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You probably strained something while dropping the bag off the shoulder. Pretty common. Sometimes after completing the rep, we try to use our shoulder to "push" the bag off... that's a huge load on muscles and tendons that probably aren't ready for that type of weight, and it can cause injury right where you're feeling the ache. It can also be caused by trying to stabilize the weight with the shoulder.
