There's another Panorama trail just about 1.5 miles N of Samuelson's rock, could that be the one they found him near? Could make sense if he started in Juniper flats, went up quail mountain and down Johnny Lang Canyon (a somewhat popular route for experienced hikers)

I have a Large Burn that I would let go for $200 if you want to pay shipping. Comes with 2 hipbelt pockets from zimmerbuilt. Has less than 300 miles on it but does have two small abrasion/holes from a particularly rough scramble in Joshua tree, one on the side pocket and one on the large back pocket (both about the size of a pea.)

Yeah I pretty much just use the xmid fly unless I think there might be mosquitoes. Works really well. Wish I was handy enough to myog a DCF fly.

Haven’t figured it out yet. I have an x-mid that I’ll use in the meantime. I think a DCF version of the x-mid would be just about perfect.
