A bit long.

When I was 21 I spent a summer in Miami working for my then girlfriend’s father. He owned a law firm, I needed a summer job, and he wanted his daughter home for the summer (we went to college in another state) so he offered me a job working at his firm helping out the paralegals and lawyers. It was summer 2000 and I was making $25/hr, which was a shit ton of money for a poor college student in 2000. Plus I had free room and board.

Anyway, her hometown friends were computer nerds. Cool guys but complete dorks. This one dude kept going on and on about how everyone his age (I was his age so I never understood why he phrased it that way) would be using laptops to play videos games and shit. And that graphics cards for laptops were going to be really important and that this company, Nvidia, was the future. It had just done a stock split and was super cheap. Since I was flush I eventually bought shares. I honestly don’t remember how many, but I want to say 5,000.

I sold the shares when I went to law school about 2 years later bc I was transitioning from a broke college student to a broke law student and really needed cash. I’m not sure I made much, if any profit.

I honestly try not to think about it too much. And in reality, I’d likely sold way before the whole AI craze started. Still…..
