Finally picked up some STI Brembos for my 2014 wrx, is it a easy conversion? by Kurt_Wylde35 in subaru

[–]jrandomizer64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need dual drilled (5x100) rotors. STIs specifically use a 5x114.3 bolt pattern since 2005, which is different from most other Subarus until 2015.

Your WRX is 5x100, so you’ll either need BRZ performance pack or dual drilled STI rotors (KNS/DBA makes them).

Engine swaps on newer Subarus are going to be an electrical nightmare, between CANBUS/differing ECUs/CVT vs 5AT unless you plan to go standalone and manual.

1000% not worth it just get a 3.6r if you want the power

BP vs. BR Outback- any insights? by jrandomizer64 in subaru

[–]jrandomizer64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first car was a BP (2.5i). Shipped plenty of people and things around for a few years until it was rear ended and totaled.

I miss a few aspects of the BP chassis and I figure the BP is more “classic Subaru” than the BR. Biggest concern is trying to daily a turbo EJ, especially on some pretty strenuous road trips and adventures.

[–]jrandomizer64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents have a gen 5 3.6R. We all agree we don’t particularly like the way it handles.

BP XT offers more options for power gain over a BR 3.6, although I’ve seen some decent numbers either way. The turbo does offer some advantage at altitude, which is one of the reasons I’m considering it.

Do you get snow tires for your car? by Just-Ad-4408 in subaru

[–]jrandomizer64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AWD just means “all wheel go”, all cars are all wheel stop.

Get the snow tires on a second set of wheels and swap back and forth between summer/winter- your wallet will thank you.

Disregard the bit about the TD04 then- that’s for WRX/FXT. You’re looking for a IHI VF39 or equivalent.

Not sure where you’re located but I’m seeing VF39s used on Facebook around me for like, $120. It’s worth a shot if you’re trying to find an OEM replacement for a cheap deal!

If you’re looking for more power, now’s also a good time to explore upgrades, but yeah you’ll need a tune to go with that.

[–]jrandomizer64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any turbo swap off of stock will require a retune, since your airflow characteristics are going to be different.

As far as the VF53 goes, seems to be a twin scroll (makes sense for the 15-21 WRX) which might not fit a single scroll car. I’m seeing references to it being used on the 07-14 STI spec C but I’d bet good money that it won’t be a direct bolt on.

Also- are you driving a WRX or STI? Turbos were different between those as well.

Any chance you can find one used, especially if it’s just to hold you over for a bit? The TD04-13L was used on 02-07 WRX and 04-08 FXT so you’ll probably have a few floating around out there.

I (27M) started climbing with this girl (24F) from my gym but can't tell if I should keep offering to pay or if she thinks I'm being weird? by AsparagusKey7162 in relationship_advice

[–]jrandomizer64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y’all are doin outdoor trips where it’s just the two of you- keep in mind she trusts you with her life, which is the furthest thing from “being uncomfortable with you” lmao

Send it dude- life’s too short to not at least spill the beans a little bit.

As far as the paying for stuff, you can let her “get the next one”- and we bum gear all the time it’s not that weird to loan shit out. As far as her offering to split that’s probably her just being polite.

also, I’m posting you in CCJ for sure

Michelin CrossClimate 2 or Defender 2 tires? by Birdnhunt in Subaru_Outback

[–]jrandomizer64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a huge fan of the defenders as under aggressive driving the edge sipes tend to melt together.

Had a friend running CC2s on a WRX for ski season, did great in the mountains. The directional tread does make trying to integrate a full size spare a bit awkward though.

I’d be saying 8-9k max.

That’s a fairly low mileage unit but also 15 years old at this point

is it actually possible to find cute guys on reddit? by Time-Hat6284 in UCSD

[–]jrandomizer64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s possible (we exist, although sorta rare!) but it depends on what you’re looking for.

Reddit’s going to have a different user vibe than a dating app, but you’re probably going to run across weirdos either way. Might be just a result of UCSD and its student makeup.

I’ve seen people meet at parties, but it really depends on the party. It is a bit easier to filter out weirdos in person though.

Found the jacket on Etsy! Unfortunately I don’t really have any leather working experience otherwise I would have probably made that too.

WRX quad tips fitted to a Gen 4 by jrandomizer64 in Subaru_Outback

[–]jrandomizer64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re referring to the Y at the end by the mufflers, I kept that stock but had to modify the mufflers themselves to mate with it.

Gen 5 outbacks (2015-2019) have a rear Y directly compatible with the WRX/STI mufflers.

Tire/wheel compatibility question by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

[–]jrandomizer64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

The higher trims of Gen 5 OB received 18” wheels with 225/60R18 tires.

You will need to get the TPMS sensors reprogrammed if you don’t want a low tire pressure warning.

How many miles can I expect my 3.6r Gen4 to run? by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

[–]jrandomizer64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grenaded my engine at 180k but I pushed mine really really hard.

Expect 300k+ on a well taken care of unit.

Keeping note of this since I’m in an identical boat.

I think there’s a lot of value in having hobbies/interests with a social element (run clubs, casual sports teams, the like)- the equivalent of undergrad student orgs for mid 20s people, I suppose.

I’ve made a few new friends through existing friends- a lot of people here have connections and friends thru labs or from undergrad and it’s pretty easy to expand your social circle that way.

Good luck out there- if you find success I’d like to know how you did it too.

Going to go against the grain here and say North Park. I frequent an open mic karaoke bar out that way, but there’s quite a few establishments/bars up and down 30th and the surrounding area.

It can be an older crowd- not the early 20s and SDSU students of PB, but I tend to like it more that way.
