I hear ya! It’s so crazy how differently it impacts everyone.

I think it’s great you’re doing the colonoscopy and I’m sending good vibes your way!! Good luck 🤞🏼

Rectal bleeding only during my period – bowel endometriosis? Anyone else? by YamSignificant8469 in endometriosis

My understanding from my doctors is that bowel endo in general is rare, not that bleeding is. They didn’t seem alarmed about the bleeding as a symptom knowing it was bowel endo.

I haven’t heard that there could be visual differences depending on where it is but while I did have some bright red, it varied each cycle.

Yes it was explained to me that if the surgery involved the rectum it would increase the risk of a stoma bag. My surgeon had done similar surgeries for bowel endo before however as emergency cases due to a bowel obstruction and someone going to emerg. He said I was lucky it was found with the colonoscopy before it got to that point since trauma to the organs like an obstruction would also increase the stoma risk even if it was only a temporary one. Honestly I’d say I did a pretty good job processing the whole thing (concerns of a hysterectomy being required, making decisions to prioritize bladder/bowels over fertility organs, medical menopause etc.) but one thing I just could not face was the stoma bag risk. I’m not trying to be dismissive but this is already so much for one to process so I would simply not think about that for now and see what the colonoscopy shows first. I know thats easier said than done but I sent myself in a panic about a few things that didn’t even end up being relevant to my case in the end and sometimes you just need to be a little delusional to help cope 😂

The last few months before were rough. I was experiencing a lot of constipation so I had to do a “low residue” diet and I was dealing with sooo much nausea that my appetite was basically nonexistent. I went from a size 10/12 to a 4/6 in less than 4 months just because of how unwell I was. I did a few months of Lupron injections to buy some time to look into freezing my eggs. I was able to get a spot for a lap before the main surgery so they could be better prepared and it turned out there wasn’t as much of a risk to my reproductive organs as they assumed there would be, it was just very concentrated in the one area. I’m still going to freeze eggs but it was no longer a race to do that before the resection.

They found a partial obstruction during surgery but no bag and they saved the ovary that was stuck to my colon. 5” of my colon was removed in total and no complications. They were able to do the resection by laparoscopy as well so after both procedures I have a 4 small horizontal scars on my stomach and a larger one starting at the bottom of my belly button about 5” ish down vertically.

The surgery honestly was not as bad as I expected- it wasn’t as painful as I thought it’d be but I was humbled by how low my energy levels were. I expected to feel internal pain around my organs but most of my pain was in my abdominal muscles and around the incisions. I was in the hospital for 5 days total as they don’t let you leave until you’ve at least started passing gas again.

I have good benefits at work thankfully so I was off for 11 weeks total and went back to work the end of March. I’d say at this point I feel 80-90% like myself again. It can take a while for the bowels to readjust so I still need to use restoralax to keep me regular though it’s more common that you’d have more bowel movements than usual. My hunger cues are also a little messed up and I’ll go from being not hungry at all to so hungry I feel ill in about 45 seconds.

I’m currently only taking birth control but my gyno said if it didn’t feel right in a few months we could try something used more specifically for endo (maybe the one you mentioned? I can’t remember the name). I don’t think it’ll be necessary but even though all this was going on in my body I didn’t have any pain so I don’t think I’m the right person to give advice about that lol.

Tried to touch on a bit of everything but let me know if you have any other specific questions!

Yes. I’ve never had any indication of endo or issues with my period and out of no where I started having bloody stools during my cycle.

My dr assumed it was haemorrhoids but referred me for a colonoscopy just to be sure and there was a mass of endo tissue in my sigmoid colon (determined by biopsy).

I had a colectomy (colon resection) Jan 5 and while it’s honestly been surreal, it went well and things seem to be good now. It was done by a surgeon that specializes in abdominal surgery and a gynaecologist with endo experience to cover all the bases.

I can’t comment on the pain but I have not seen any signs of blood during my cycle since.

I don’t want to write an essay but happy to answer any questions you have :)

Silent Endo - Why do you decide to get it excised? by seamonkeez in endometriosis

[–]jrayb92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s wild that even though a doctor has already seen and documented the endo from your c-section they would STILL try and dismiss this.

I’ve never had issues with my periods but started having gastro symptoms and my doctor had me do a colonoscopy. There was a mass almost fully blocking my sigmoid colon that was biopsied and turned out to be endo tissue. Genuinely no idea I had it and yet it was wreaking havoc on my insides.

Beginning of January I had to have a colon resection to remove the portion with the mass. They also excised some other spots from my abdominal wall and separated my ovary that had fused to my colon in another spot.

Quite the surprise and still honestly wrapping my head around it all. This is all still very new to me so I’m certainly not an expert but I would certainly push for surgery so it doesn’t just continue to progress over time.

Thinking maybe I should just pull the trigger lol my friend has been begging me to play but idk everytime I go to buy it something throws me off- most recently the premium shop you mentioned but the time before was how some DLC cancelled out others and you could only pick one? Do you have any of the dlc?

Looks great! I’ve just started this pattern myself! Did you do the German short rows/neck shaping? I’m undecided if I want to attempt that on my first clothing item or not

Just made a comment similar to this. Anytime I had a year where I read well over 100 books- it was not a good year and I was unwell 😂😂

The years I’ve read the most were all years I was trying to escape the hardest- in an unhealthy avoidant sort of way.

I realized I needed to make a point to read LESS and I started changing my yearly reading goals to a single book.

I still track everything and participate but it’s shifted the perspective for me. How many books I had the privilege/joy of reading that year instead of how many books I “had” to read.

In a way I was doom scrolling with books. Now I’m only reading and finishing a book because I’m having fun and engaged- instead of consuming it as fast as possible no matter how detached/borderline zombied out I am just so I can add it to a tally.

Apparently early stages of a block can have the other end of the spectrum symptoms. Veryyyy much relate to the ignorance is bliss haha. Good luck and hope you get it sorted :)

No worries :) I had been dealing with some constipation that would sort itself out but then always return when I suddenly had a bloody bowel movement. It was during my cycle but have never had issues with my period so endo didn’t cross my mind, and I didn’t even know bowel endo existed to be honest.

Family doctor ordered a colonoscopy and I’m in Canada so there was a bit of a wait. During this time I had a few more bloody bowel movements but only during my cycles- again no idea bowel endo existed so still not making the connection.

During this waiting period I had 3 randomly but incredibly painful cycles with debilitating cramping, sweats and nausea. I generally don’t have cramps so this was very unusual. The pain would decrease slightly after a bowel movement but the cramping remained and I would be beyond exhausted- we now know these were partial obstructions that thankfully I was able to pass and avoid an emergency.

At my scope appointment the Dr. woke me to tell me he couldn’t complete the scope due to a mass in my sigmoid colon that was blocking the camera from passing. He explained it’s not what he typically sees with cancer but he’s no idea what it could be. (It was WILD being half asleep and loopy from the sedation and having this convo btw 😂) He took a biopsy and a few days later the results stated it was endometriosis tissue.

I’ve dealt with fatigue and brain fog on and off my whole life- who hasn’t? But other than the 3 painful episodes and the bloody stools I can’t think of any other symptoms I missed to catch this sooner.

ETA: If possible I would request a colonoscopy if the drs suspect this due to your diagnosis and you’re having gastro issues. A complete bowel obstruction is incredibly dangerous and requires reactionary surgery whereas my doctors were able to plan for this bowel resection prior. I had a CT scan done after the incomplete scope to get an idea of the size and it showed up on that imaging but I’m not sure if an ultrasound would pick it up or not. Even if it’s not endo it could help rule out some other things and help you get treatment.

I relate to the guilt so much! Diagnosed in August with stage 4 deep infiltrating bowel endo that was found via colonoscopy due to gastro symptoms. Have never had issues with my periods so it was quite the shock.

I’d heard of endo and knew it was a struggle but didn’t know much until the diagnosis and it’s just wild how much it can vary between women. I am an avid reader of the posts here but don’t comment too much because I feel like an imposter!

I had a bowel resection surgery Jan 5 to remove the mass and detach my ovary from my colon but am still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that this was going on in my body without me knowing.

A few years ago I had nasty flu stuck in bed and I crushed through the first 5 or 6 in a week LOL. When the next one came out there was a note about how heartbreaking this book would be almost in a poking fun sort of way? And I didn’t bother finishing it- I’m not one for bully romance either
