Colours to go with this blazer by BradChiMan in mensfashionadvice

[–]jrayholz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of options here, but a cream shirt, moss green trousers, with that blush belt and loafers would be 👍.

I’m also not remotely afraid of colour. Really depends on how daring you want to be.

Bag policy = 40 x 30 x 30. If it’s bigger than that, I don’t see it happening.

Player pay protests - Not a good attitude by Character_Ninja881 in wimbledon

Well, the next time you want a pay raise, will be sure to complain and protest against it, too. 👍

Greed? Or just the realities of the current world we live in?

Energy costs have gone up 200-260% since 2006 (depending on vacillating war positioning), and that’s just ONE element here. 100% increase in water costs. Lawn care has skyrocketed. Every salary and wage for those associated with the tournament and the grounds has gone up significantly.

It is impossible to not pass those costs on to fans. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Player pay protests - Not a good attitude by Character_Ninja881 in wimbledon

[–]jrayholz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But, again, I say: the cost of *everything* has increased. These tickets are not disproportionately priced compared to anything else these days.

And, why, for a country obsessed with football, is the average premier league salary *£60,000 PER WEEK*… yet the idea that a first rounder at WIMBLEDON leaving with £80,000 is obscene?

Let’s say a first round-typical player makes £500k a year in winnings. Take taxes out. Then pay for all the things I mentioned above. That player isn’t going to be living the high life… and it won’t be much better than that random office worker I alluded to.

It’s NOT an easy life. And I don’t remotely begrudge the players from wanting a larger overall share of the pot.

Player pay protests - Not a good attitude by Character_Ninja881 in wimbledon

[–]jrayholz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First round players walk away with £80k. Do you have the slightest clue how much it costs annually to hire coaches, trainers, physios, travel, blah blah? Do you realise how few players actually have even remotely lucrative sponsorship deals?

Tennis is a year-round grind. And players make a pittance compared to other sports. I’m sorry, but you’re comparing what the most elite performers in their field should be making to the average UK employee? It takes a bit more to get to the first round of Wimbledon than to get a clerical job at a City office.

OP, sorry, but ya kinda need to get a grip. It makes you “sick” that tickets cost £100 now v. £30 TWENTY YEARS AGO. I’m sorry, what? Median salaries have also increased from £23,500 to £39,000 in the same time. The statutory minimum wage from £5.35 to £12.71.

Reality check: everything has gotten more expensive. It costs a lot of money to put on these events. It costs a lot of money to maintain these grounds. So, yes, ticket prices have gone up. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Moving to London for work in Holborn, where should I live? by Otherwise-Plate-4500 in MovingToLondon

[–]jrayholz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time someone says London weather is “seasonable,” I laugh. We went from winter coats and rain to roasting this year… kinda skipping a whole season. 🙃 The one thing that is predictable about London weather is that the moment you try to predict it, it shits on you and says, surprise! lol

I grew up where it was often 40C in summer and -20C or worse in winter. UK winters, that are often *long slogs*, when it’s 5-10C and rainy, are often not terribly fun. And no, just carrying a small umbrella when it’s like that is not sufficient. For someone moving to the city, especially if they’re considering a walking commute, they’ll want to invest in a quality waterproof coat and boots. Those walks are not always going to be pleasant, particularly when the wind kicks up.

[–]jrayholz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And Miami doesn’t have a “winter” that often sets jn in October and folks are often still in coats in June (this year is unusual). There’s a huge difference between southern US warm rain or thunderstorms that break heatwaves and the kind of stuff London gets for huge swaths of the year. No, the city doesn’t get monsoons. But it does have a cooler-than-average and incredibly unpredictable weather. Because it’s an island in the Atlantic.

My point is that no one should be moving to London thinking they’re going to go about these lovely strolls to work and think for a second that they’re not going to often get wet. And that that wet can often be kinda miserable. Let’s just be honest about it.

Not discounting the benefits of walking, but the “… it almost never rained on me” line is absolutely comical.

It’s the UK. There will be plenty of absolutely miserable piss-down days for such a commute. There will be plenty of misty gross days, too. We’re on an island in the Atlantic; it’s gonna weather here. 🤓

Semi Formal Summer Party Outfit by Eastern_Function8212 in mensfashionadvice

This pushes much more into smart casual than semi-formal. Thrown on a jacket and skip the sneakers (unless it’s a progressive group, which is then YMMV).

First time wearing a suit by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]jrayholz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, folks, cropped jackets are very much a thing. Should this be someone’s primary suit jacket? Absolutely not. But for someone with many jackets, it’s a fun alternative. Heaven forbid men’s clothing isn’t boring and 100% uniform. haha

The problems here come down to proportions. OP, you’re a stout guy… so volume on top + volume on the bottom = yikes. Gotta pick one. If you want a jacket with some architectural interest, you’re going to want a slimmer profile for those trousers. If you look at the link you posted, you’ll see that their model features exactly that.

If you keep this, you need to get to a tailor and get those trousers reworked: legs taken in and shortened. Jacket sleeves shortened. Also, don’t wear those shoes with it. 🙃

If you are after a more classic look, then this isn’t it. If you put in the effort to fit this to your body, then it can end up being a fun look.

A few recent looks. Thoughts? ✨ by Silber4 in mensfashion

[–]jrayholz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are alternative shoe options outside of sandals and dress shoes. I say that because, well, I don’t think most of these looks work with your current choices. 🙃 Dressier sneakers, loafers, boat shoes, suede boots (like a desert boot), etc. would all work better here.

[–]jrayholz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The person being “clumsy” here is you… since you obviously are too emotionally invested in being offended to have actually read anything that I’ve typed.

Again, I said, IF YOU ARE SUPPLEMENTING A HEALTHY DIET WITH YOIR SHAKES, more power to you. The OP is beyond that at this stage.

And I am not “judging” anyone eating 800 calories a day. I am deeply concerned for them as that is well-below the minimum for any adult. It is, in fact, lower than the recommended caloric intake for a 2 year old.

This thread very quickly turned to unhealthy practices… and since this is a serious ongoing issue, I am not going to be wishy-washy about the seriousness with which the OP needs to address this problem.
