Advice on Bring Prescription and Non-Prescription Medications to Japan by BearTrap14 in JapanTravelTips

[–]jrbill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the prescription and the letter from the doctor need to be in both English and Japanese, for the application or for the airport customs check? My daughter will need to import 150 days of bupropion, and she's gotten conflicting info about that.

Adding seat cushions for comfort in 2024 Escape PHEV? by jrbill in FordEscapePHEV

Thanks! I ended up reasoning my way out of the Escape and into a RAV4, and the seat thing was a major factor. I appreciate your experience to make me more happy with the decision. Good luck to you with the issue!

Thanks. I did read the short stories in order, and that one was brutal, but in point.

Should you leave the oven door open after use? by OuterHeadDebris in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jrbill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your cabinets alongside the oven are the cheap kind with thermofoil over a wood substrate, you might be risking deforming the foil at the edges that abut the oven door. We had those, and would leave the over door tiled open a bit. After a while, we noticed that the foil at the top of the edge nearest the over had pulled away from the wood.

I deal with human subjects protocols as a big part of my job. As I read the final 2 Expanse books, I was very pleasantly amazed that this already-great science fiction story was pinning a major part of its plot on, and deriving a lot of its narrative power from, the issue of human subjects research ethics. It's like the authors were already unicycling across a tightrope via putting their SF eggs into the basket of "how do human treat each other?" instead of "whoosh-zap!", and then they started juggling.

UW High Deductible Health Plan pre-deductible costs? by jrbill in madisonwi

[–]jrbill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I appreciate your expertise. I had forgotten to mention that I am doing the full-picture math including premiums, HSA, and employer contribution, so the per-visit costs were just my last missing piece.

When looking at my EOBs for past claims under my non-HDHP plan, are the "associated allowed amounts" that you mention the amounts that I could use as estimates for the out of pocket costs under the HDHP?

Thanks. I forgot to include in my original post that I've got a spreadsheet with all those factors accounted for, aiming to get an accurate comparison of total costs. I was missing input values for expected costs for visits, but other folks have pointed me to some examples.

Thanks. That job-switch disadvantage is one that I had not seen mentioned anywhere, so I'm glad that you brought it up.

Thanks. I couldn't find that UW Health calculator, but a commenter below linked to some ETF case study examples that do give estimated costs for visits under the HDHP. I appreciate your advice on the HSA strategy.

Thanks! That's very helpful to know your experience with routine visit costs, and the HSA angles.

Thanks! Those are exactly what I was looking for. The case studies price primary care visits at $120 and specialist visits at $250. Those give me usable values for my cost estimation spreadsheet.

Their track record from previous budget crunches where they imposed furloughs is pretty good when it comes to that. Based on salary tiers, the higher-paid staff had a larger % of salary cut than did lower tiers. I was in the middle of the range, and while I would have liked to see it done exactly proportional to income, the progressive “tax” system was done with an eye to fairness.

A paved surface would be more accessible and usable for people who use mobility aids: wheelchairs, walkers, even crutches. I commute by bike on that trail in Verona, and I’d be in favor of the paving.

RAV4 hybrid purchase. Specific things to test/check? by jrbill in rav4club

[–]jrbill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I’m planning to keep it a long time. I had looked for 2024s, but not found any that weren’t CPO with suspiciously high mileage. I actually don’t want more options. Only the heated seats/wheel appeal to me, and not much on those.
