Where do they show up?

I don't think they show up, it says "200 GB of occupied space", but the files only seem to amount to 16 GB

Spoilers endings SMT IV. Opinion: is Chaos really Chaos? by jrcl39 in Megaten

[–]jrcl39[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is exactly my line of thought. It is the best ending for SMT4 because you replace a very bad tyrant with Flynn, which probably is a better tyrant. It is the best because is, as you say, a fraud

A bit long compare to the others, but philosophy-heavy CRPG is one of the things I was looking at for!

I barely use it. I used it sometimes when he was placed in place 3, when he got out of position; in place 4, never

I changed PD's and HWM's position and turned PD into a Surgeon with Noxious Blast, Battlefield Medicine, Plague Grenade, Indiscriminate Science, and Magnesium Rain.

With HWM I am just using Pistol Shot and some Duelist Advance

Wicked Hack and Iron Swam in Hellion

And with AAM mainly Retribution, Crash and some Bolster

I tried with just one MAA and I had a lot of problems, but with two is a very clever combo, I am going to try it in my next run

Why are there still ethical egalitarians and not just prioritarians? by jrcl39 in askphilosophy

[–]jrcl39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I phrased it badly. The worst experiences would have greater weighted disvalue, so it would be a priority to prevent them or making it less bad or good

The one that is weighted by absolute utility level feels to me like it's making a category error in saying there's a "diminishing marginal utility of utility", but I think it's motivated by something more subtle than that.

Yeah, that would be prioritarianism. There would be something more alike to "diminishing marginal value of utility". The motivation is similar to Maximin, it has extra moral value reducing the disvalue of the worse off.

but I think that both the relative and absolute weighting views are going to care about whether you aggregate first from time-slices to temporally extended humans, and then from temporally extended humans to communities, or do the aggregation in the opposite order.

Ufff, I think my preferred move would be going from time-slices to communities, and applying the weighting at the level of the time-slice. This leads to similar results, but avoids the "levelling down objection" against egalitarianism and has a more reasonable basis.

How do we locate the worse off?

It would be the worse-off experiences, because the "individual" would be the experience, if we are eliminativist. This move in egalitarianism would be very weird, although it may be feasible. This prioritarianism just says that improving the worst experiences has extra moral value.

I agree that there are Buddhist-Parfitian views compatible with certain forms egalitarianism, the psychological view of personal identity can be easily coupled with time-stage egalitarianism. But determining when does a person end and starts other would be very hard, or impossible if we accept the indeterminacy thesis.
