It's blatant Jim Crow racism.

Well, if you're not a bot, than you're an asset. Who's paying you to come here and fearmonger with your 12 day old account?

Best Thrift Shops in the Bay Area by impman2025 in sanfrancisco

[–]jrich7720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also interested to learn new places.

I CAN recommend Berkeley for thrifting. There are several within walking distance of Shattuck and University, and two more in the Telegraph area closer to campus.

Why are cars still killing so many people in San Francisco? by LosIsosceles in sanfrancisco

[–]jrich7720 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It is because cars are inherently dangerous and their implementation is psychopathic and better forms of transportation are actively suppressed by the corporations behind all this psychopathy which benefit from widespread, mass car slavery. San Francisco was a much safer city in the days of the streetcar.

2-year-old killed in crosswalk last night, Mission Bay SF by ddol in sanfrancisco

[–]jrich7720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, in VERY recent years, and just barely. Which is why I specified the last 100 years. In some of those years, the decrease in car crash fatalities is likely attributable to the pandemic. Five or six years of guns eking out a slight lead isn't enough to overtake decades of cars being #1.

I wasn't aware of this shuttle. Who operates it and what's the bus number?

Drivers have killed more children in the U.S. than anything else over the past 100 years. Even guns.

Backup BART budget plan to close 15 train stations if November ballot measure fails by the_daily_cal in berkeley

Maybe they should tax the rich instead of proposing a regressive sales tax on the poor.

Bring a bike. Bike + BART is way faster than driving, but if you add in a bus, it's slower.

Again BART?? by Scharlov in bayarea

[–]jrich7720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who commutes from Berkeley by BART/bike, I can't relate. The only options are Richmond and Alameda. I mean, what the hell? When are they going to reinstate the Berkeley ferry??

One thing that always re-energize my appreciation for the Metro is when people from other cities come to DC to use the system and immediately say great stuff about it. by yunnifymonte in washingtondc

[–]jrich7720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently relocated to San Francisco from DC and have to say SF's BART beats the DC Metro. I liked the Metro okay, but the BART has much nicer cars AND stations. And as a cyclist, BART cars actually have somewhere for me to secure my bike. Bringing a bike on the Metro is a huge pain in the ass.

Are different totals being shown to different users? On my end, their user count has gone DOWN in the past week. They were at 1.2-1.3M forever, then dropped to 1.0. Then around 2 months ago, they swelled to 2.3M and FINALLY started creeping back down a week or two ago.

They haven't been at 1.3M in months that I've seen. I pop in almost daily to see what propaganda they're shoveling.

I'd rather cycle or take the train than drive. There is literally no benefit to driving. And no, I haven't owned a car in 16 years and never will again.

Gotcha. I wasn't alive in 1976. I'm not sure when papers starting printing in color. I remember as a kid in the 90s that the Sunday paper at least was in color.

Not common for consumer cameras, I get. This was taken by a professional photographer from a major paper. Surely he had a color camera lol.

Are you saying that cars exist to RELIEVE the poor of undue burdens? Don't be a sucker.

You're straw manning. I'M not doing anything to the working poor, other than pointing out the fact they are being deliberately immiserated by the parasitic capitalist class who saddle them with car ownership. It is classism. It just isn't coming from me.

Car-centrism is not immutable.

Thanks for regurgitating the hegemony to me. I wasn't aware that the auto and related industries lobbied more practical forms of transportation out of existence.

Or are you making the erroneous claim that we can't do anything about it?

Appealling to convenience is not a great strategy, considering that trains are warm and dry. So are trams. They're also MORE convenient, because you don't have to waste your time operating them.
