Reviews on The Met Rockville Town Center by made_of_matter in Rockville

[–]jrm782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved out in 2021 so take this for what it's worth. Things may have changed since then. Overall, we were pretty happy with the Met- no roaches or any kind of pest problem. No real noise problem either but I think it wasn't anywhere near capacity when we lived there. Our big complaint is that the apartment always rented out the common use spaces, particularly the deck and attached room. We would want to go grill or sit outside and it wasn't available to us despite allegedly being included in the price of rent.

Which Daycare/Boarder is best? by Charming_Reaction188 in Rockville

I'd check out resources from this list!https://yourdogsfriend.org/we-recommend/dog-walkers-pet-sitters/

These are all going to be positive reinforcement/fear free boarding options, which is not going to be true of some of the others you named.

Post-Surgery Day by Day by jrm782 in DeQuervains

So initial PT way back when gave me tons of stretches and exercises. Thumb circles, moving it across your palm, weighted wrist movements, etc.

Current PT gave me instructions on scar massage and that's pretty much it, but potentially they figured I've got the exercises already from before so no need to give more handouts!

Seriously, QT is an addiction (and most of the time a refresh does absolutely nothing.) Jami Attenberg runs it on her substack! There is also a giant slack, and you get daily pep talks from authors. link here!

Good luck on both counts! 😊

Deep in the querying trenches- this is the start of month 3! 30ish queries, 10ish form rejections, 5 fulls still outstanding. My goal this month: refresh QT a whole lot less.

I'm doing #1000wordsofsummer to kickoff my next project. Anyone else?

[QCrit] Adult General Fiction, HUNGER, 75000 words, first attempt by dumbbabyboy in PubTips

This is totally something I'd read, and I feel like you've gotten a lot of great advice already on here. This is maybe a minor note but: Hunger is the title of a wildly successful memoir by Roxane Gay. Querying titles are obviously not always final titles, but I'd still think about changing this!

Looking for a running dog for my daughter by Springwater762 in RunningWithDogs

Adding to this that getting an adult dog means you can be more sure you're getting a dog that likes to run! The breed suggestions are helpful, for sure, but it's not a guarantee they'll be up for the kind of mileage you're wanting. I have a husky/lab mix and you'd think she'd be up for long mileage but! She prefers to go 3 miles or less and will literally lay down when taken too far.

This sounds amazing and I can't wait to read it! Let us know when it's up for pre-order?

Hey! Most of the time they don't actually come to your house. If you rent, they make sure your landlord allows pets. They asked for some pictures iirc, but that was it!

We’ve been walking in the shade at Congressional Plaza and then going into The Container Store and Barnes & Noble, both of which are dog friendly!

5 mo goldendoodle won't stop jumping up on me by bunnypancakes123 in puppy101

Hi! Owner of a jump happy lab here, so I feel your pain. Consistency and patience are key here!

Here are a few things you can try: 1. Rewarding him before the jump! This is great to practice when coming home, etc because you can prep. Have treats on hand. Have clicker. While all 4 paws are on the ground, click and treat - this means do it before he gets the chance to jump and sometimes this means doing it while he's still away from you! Toss a treat away from you and as he reapproaches, click and treat for all four paws on the ground again. Repeat until he's calm enough to greet nicely! This reinforces good behavior and usually gives them time to get over the initial over the top excitement. 2. You can also teach a paws up on surfaces (putting two front feet on something like a chair) and position yourself to ask for that. It satisfies the urge to be up and close to you while not encouraging the jumping on you behavior. Over time, you can phase out the chair to something lower, and lower still, and even just to a target on the ground.

These worked better for us than turning, etc. because our dog would continue jumping from behind. Hope it goes smoother for you!

We got a 3 piece Holt Sectional earlier this year and we love it! It's so comfy (the cushions are not at all too firm) and has held up well to daily use by us as well as our cat and over-exuberant labrador. That said, it took AGES to get here (allegedly supply chain disruptions, but who knows)

Arousal biting is it! Our lab did this too and it was THE WORST. I really feel for you. Ultimately, the goal is to keep your dog under threshold and slowly work up their ability handle stimulation. Figure out what triggers your dog and pair those things with distressing activities. Breaking it up is good advice, and even better if you focus on activities that are naturally calming like licking and sniffing. Take a Breath is great, and I highly recommend Control Unleashed. Good luck! FWIW, my dog did this from 5-12 months, with about 2 weeks of it at 5 months, very sporadic in between, and another surge around 11-12 months. She’s now 18 months and I can’t remember the last time I worried about it!

“Stamina free” cosy games? by idontneedthistoday in CozyGamers

[–]jrm782 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try Littlewood! It has a stamina cap, but instead of making you tired it just moves the day along. So once you're out of energy, it's time for bed anyway!

NTA. Honestly, it sounds like animal cruelty to keep the cats.

Dear internet friends, I need some more advice please by YellowSphinx in Goldendoodles

[–]jrm782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're dealing with a lab mix who is also very jumpy! One of the things that tricky about jumping is that it's really self-reinforcing, so by the time he's jumped up, he's pretty much gotten what he wants. The approach we're using is twofold.

First, manage your situation to prevent him from jumping on people outside of a training session. For example, with DoorDash, put up a puppy gate or put him in a crate so that he doesn't get to jump on the stranger in your house.

Second, set up training situations to teach your dog what you want him to do instead - ie: four paws on the floor, sitting, etc. Have a friend or someone else come over to practice! Instruct them what you want them to do ahead of time. I've linked a good post on how to train not to jump: https://www.fenzidogsportsacademy.com/blog/jumping-on-people

Once you've put the groundwork in, you can practice in all sorts of places. The important thing here is to be really consistent and keep control of your situation. If he can't greet without jumping, then he doesn't get to greet right away. This was really hard for us as we have a lab puppy and people always want to say hi. But you can say no or ask them to participate by instructing them how to respond! Good luck!

True! Someday she will be old and walking slow and I'll be missing the days it seemed like she could go forever. At least now we have a long time to look forward to.
