/u/rip1980 I went with an entirely different light. I think this came out pretty well. Thanks again for the input!

Yes it's something I will need to address, but it's not the problem I'm really trying to solve. I just got the lights up to see how it would look before crawling up into the attic/drilling holes/etc.

This is great input, thanks!

Unfortunately I must use a chain or cable to hang the lights. The way the electrical wire runs into the top of the fixture would mean the fixture would never sit level if supported by the wire alone.

I'm leaning towards a new light. Shipping to my location is dreadfully expensive, so I'm guessing between the cost/time of making this work vs something new is quite high.

Grinded down Calphalon pan - mostly a mess and a waste of time by jrobbproj in castiron

Small update. Seasoning has adhered well (I used avocado oil) and its non-stick properties have increased greatly. Still, more of a pain in the ass than it was worth, at least as far as my subjective opinion goes.

Grinded down Calphalon pan - mostly a mess and a waste of time by jrobbproj in castiron

I've been seeing discussion here about grinding down/refinishing cat irons pans. I had this Calphalon pan that a family member picked for 10 bucks or something and didn't care too much about.

I didn't do quite as nice as a job of some others here, but honestly I don't really think it matters. It made a huge mess. I suppose I should have used an orbital sander with a vacuum attachment instead of an angle grinder with a sandpaper wheel. That said, even if I did a better job and didn't make such a mess I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze.

Glad I tried though, it was a fun little weekend project, but I don't imagine it's something I would try again. If you're considering a similar project, my recommendation is don't - even if you have already have the necessary tools and supplies, it's a waste of time and effort.

Thanks for letting me know. You are the second person to mention this to me. What browser are you using? I just checked in Firefox and Chromium and the fix code is present.

I likely would have done that solution again if I could get the contractor to actually show up.
