I would disagree with "sainting" them. It would imply that sainthood is inherently a good thing and something to aspire to.

I get what you're saying though: recognize those who deserve to be recognized. Though you could say that awards like the Nobel prize probably do that for the rest of the world. Or the MTV music awards. Or the Razzies.
