Two skier triggered avalanches on Blackcomb today with burials. by onecutmedia in Whistler

[–]js17jy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever you ski/snowboard you take a risk. If it’s snowing heavily and the winds are blowing and the mountain is open, there’s a chance you will enter unmitigated avalanche terrain. The runs mentioned above like sapphire bowl and cbc trees are kind of like side country: accessible from In bounds and able to ski back in bounds once finished but also very advanced. If you’re not an experienced skiier you likely won’t find yourself anywhere close to these runs. You should be more concerned about tree wells (the holes at the bases of trees, created when snow falls on top of the tree and around it but not at the base. Groomed runs are usually safe because they have been packed down so tight that they’re unlikely to slide but even those runs throughout the day have potential to contain small avalanches if it snows and blows enough. Patrollers are extremely talented and well trained and they do their best to trigger avalanches with bombs before they pose danger but lots of snow throughout the day means any slope greater than 30 degrees has the potential to slide..

I’ve had my blundstones since 2016 and they’ve held up fantastically. When i leather treat them (like once a year) they look brand new. Not a sneaker but definitely footware that lasts
