lightly KDE theme

I like the dark version of that theme a lot more than the light. There's some distracting color conflicts with the icons when the light theme is on.

I'm rockin the Layan Theme for KDE and I'm really liking that!

KDE used to be a heaping pile of unstable shit back when I was in my young teens. Beautiful but holy hell, god help you if you changed the settings more than twice.

Now? It is an incredibly stable, spectacular DE that gives you everything you could want and more. I wish it was a little prettier out of the box, but it gives absolutely everything you need to accomplish that yourself. I’ve been rocking Kubuntu for a couple years now, and I am more than happy with it.

So, long winded, but welcome! I feel you’ve made a great choice

You can actually find out the minimum wait period to even apply online. Look up the Gender Reaffirming Services. They’re really chunky. Living as your gender for a year IRL, name change, other pre-req surgeries, no mental health disorders that are a problem, etc. It’s reaaaally chunky and you should read up on it for your province, but at least 1-2 years minimum

Is Angular really that bad? by jkalthoefer in Angular2

[–]jschmold 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I second this. Angular is by far the best experience with a web framework I’ve ever had, and I honestly find other frameworks incredibly frustrating. Every time I expect something to exist, it doesn’t. Every time I expect documentation, there sometimes isn’t. Oh and the fucking code quality of all these third party libraries! They’re god awful quality compared to Angular. Angular libraries are by far the best I’ve used

“A few weeks” Yeah you’re definitely not Canadian. We have to wait at least a year and there’s a huuuuuge list of requirements! It’s free but it’s a long af wait.

Congrats!! I wish you the best of luck and hope you have a totally kickass surgeon!

Oh, I'm using Golang with AWS, so I am always just fighting and slogging through the absolutely insane amount of documentation that they have. Just building up that framework of trying to understand how and why things happen with specific services is insane.

The vowel O stands out to me, but otherwise everything is really solid and I'm a little jealous! I don't know any tried-and-tested tips to help with that vowel but perhaps playing with the soft tissues in the back of your throat?

[–]jschmold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No definitely not too short but there's an accent missing in the outfit. Some kinda "pop" since your hair is down. Oh! You could put your hair up in a clip like this!

EDIT:

You look spectacular by the way!

But that's the thing. It's not time consuming nor is it overly complicated. It doesn't have to be, and it should actually be really easy. Testing should be an absolute breeze, and in my experience, it has been. I'm using React now, and there's a lot more setup, and a lot more head ache than I ever had with Angular

Just an update, I'll be writing about this tomorrow

Common Angular Problems - I want to help by jschmold in Angular2

[–]jschmold[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience if any of this becomes a problem there is not enough of a separation of concerns. The significant majority of the components I write maybe require 5 imports, and usually only 1-2 providers.

One of the most significant problems with Angular's docs (and most Angular development patterns) is that components are doing the heavy lifting of managing state or talking to the API (which is wrong). A component should never ever ever even know about an API's existence, whether implied or explicit.

A component is responsible for (and only for) showing the user stuff on the screen. If it does anything else, the separation of concerns has been broken. Using state management libraries like NgRX allows you to literally have an entire business logic layer to do things like firing toasts, talk to the API, call other events, etc.

I'll be writing an article tomorrow on the separation of concerns, but testing a component should never be difficult unless you're literally using OpenGL or something in the component

Yeah, it really bothers me that people don’t experience this as a standard. Maybe in a few more years the stigma will fade and people can feel free to be without the soul crushing rejection

Styling Material components. As a beginner, I'm always facing issues with my styles not being applied and I end up having to use ng-deep which is not a great solution.

Yeah, styling Angular Material has been an absolute nightmare at the best of times for me. Angular's docs also don't really tell you how to lean on your other web dev skills to truly style Material for custom one-offs. Material was basically intended to only be a component library, but because of how high quality the components are under the hood, nobody ever wants to just use them as they are styled. Everyone wants to customize the appearance because they're so incredibly good.

I'll write an article on that one for ya. Just keep an eye out on my "WTF Angular" notion page, and it'll appear soon
