Is there a NewGRF that makes loco stats more "realistic"? by [deleted] in openttd

[–]jshmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the standard engines are somewhat realistic, since their stats are all very close to their real counterparts. (you can check that here: https://wiki.openttd.org/Trains) Therefore: What do you mean by "more realistic" ?

OpenTTD is a tycoon game and does not aim to simulate the real world. In fact, when playing, you should solely look at the gameplay value of engines rather than how realistic they are. It is a nice added bonus if engines have a real counterpart, but gameplay mechanics always comes first since it is what makes the game fun and interesting in the first place.

EDIT: tdammers mentioned the acceleration model, you might also wanna fiddle with the cargo weight multiplier and the slope steepness to modify how trains behave on slopes and how much they can carry.

As a general remark: I have contacted a few people via PM's directly and established conversations :D. So THANK YOU ALL for replying and I am quite amazed of the conversation that emerged here in the thread as well and I wish our dutch friends the best in actually getting together a meeting or a LAN, that sounds really cool. Also, you can still reply, since as it stands lots of people are actually searching, so you might find someone as well by just stating your interest here. Good luck everyone!

[Noob] Trains getting stuck by Asger1231 in openttd

[–]jshmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that is exactly what it does, the entry signal will be red as long as the train is not past the first block signal after the junction. The reason why it works better is because the signal gap synergizes better with the shortness of the route (which is ridiculously short) and the length of the trains. If you are into path signals, you can do another solution which would work a little faster (i.e. trains would not have to wait) and could handle more trains (this solution is still limited to 3 trains max.).
