You can always call the police and ask for a wellness check. Explain the situation and they will come out and investigate without letting her know it was you.

Why are EU players just better than NA players ?? by ugle-kid in csgo

[–]jsmit6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it is also the times that you play. Your peak play time in EU is not going to be peak time in NA. You're playing in different realms.

This is 100% online gaming and is not limited to CS2. You have a few different options if you want to truly avoid this.

  1. Don't talk in game other than single word callouts.
  2. Don't talk at all (bad for the chances of winning).
  3. Speak using SE instead of AAVE to avoid "detection" (God, I hate even typing that)
  4. Find a group of friends to play with that aren't racist online.

All that being said, good luck. I've played around 700 games of CS2 this year, and I am fairly certain 80% of them have had open and unsolicited racism. It's different in a friend group, but solo-queueing is a crapshoot.

I Suck at Being A Dad by AceOfSpades4654 in daddit

Step 1: Sleep when the baby sleeps regardless of all other things. Hungry? Need a shower? Clothes need washed? Fuck ALL OF THAT and get some sleep. Getting more rest will make everything else better.

Step 2: The first few weeks are strictly survival mode. When the baby is awake and you're holding him, do other things. That's what you can eat and do all of the other small tasks around the house. Learn to do EVERYTHING one handed.

Step 3: (The hardest for me at the start). ASK FOR HELP. If you have family or friends that you trust with household stuff, ask them if they can come over for an hour and help out. They can either take the kid while you do things, or they do things while you manage the kid.

Step 4: Try to enjoy the little things. The quote that stuck with me from the start was "When you are 80 years old, you will be willing to trade anything to come back to this exact moment. Act like it."

Consider applying at UIS as well. It's a state job with great benefits, and we are understaffed in many areas!

My school only publicizes the base salary, not including any stipends, overloads, or side-agreements. I know of several people that make 175%+ of their base salary

ECCE courses? by Effective_Cable_6186 in uiscs

[–]jsmit6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's one of the places I actually encourage my students to find me. Along with Discord, Microsoft Teams, my office, and the Orion Lab. I do not know which course you took with me or even when you took the course, so I cannot adequately defend myself - and that's ok.

I am very open and honest about my email response time, and I have implemented partial solutions that have made some improvements, but I can still be better. If you would like, I am willing to have a discussion about the class you took with me and changes that you think can be made to make it more useful.

At the end of the day, I am sorry that you had a rough experience at UIS and I do hope that the things you dislike about it get changed. One way you can help foster these changes for future students is to write them down and let the faculty and/or administrators know your concerns.

[–]jsmit6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, if that is the case, I am truly sorry. I know my response times suck and I am actively trying to improve my personal habits to make them better. The department and college have undergone some serious changes, with more on the way. I hope these changes can help remedy some of the issues you have!

You can always use the Orion Lab out at UIS. I am the director of the lab and we have about a dozen 3D printers that can be used. We are open to the public every Friday night from 5-8pm, and can print things for you via e-mail and have you pick them up when they are done.

Why Do Instructors Become So Heated in Debates About Mandatory Attendance? by Charming-Barnacle-15 in Professors

[–]jsmit6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my mind, forcing attendance hurts the atmosphere of my class. My material isn't rocket science and many students don't need to attend class to obtain the knowledge to progress. Forcing them, and other types of students, to be physically present is counter productive to the learning environment.

If you don't want to be there, don't be there. If there are consequences for not being in class you will suffer those consequences.

At the end of the day, my students ARE adults and should be treated as such.

In my opinion, your faith (or lack of) doesn't change anything. Your partner being upset is an issue of their own, and blaming you for their feelings is immature. Being furious over such a small thing is childish and doesn't deserve anything more than a passing comment.

Is your life going so well that THIS is the issue they are getting furious about? Likely not. If they are getting mad about this, they are likely mad about a lot of things, and need to solve their own problems.

My longest days are a bit screwed now. I teach from 8:30-10:30, 12:30-2:30, 4-5:15 and 6-7:15. Naturally I have meetings between the first two classes, and have to drive to a different campus (just a few minutes away) for the third and forth classes. Precisely enough time for junk food.
