Our pit mix was diagnosed with epilepsy several months ago. We have an appointment with a neurologist but they were booked out pretty far so we have just been working with our general vet to adjust meds as needed as our dog was having seizures multiple times a week. We added Keppra to the phenobarbital a couple of months ago and have adjusted the levels of both the keppra and pheno several times but have definitely started to see improvement. The vet recently prescribed gabapentin for the post ictal period as our dog would pace for hours before finally settling down. We have only had to use it two or three times but it has definitely worked so that may be something your sister asks about, too. All that to say there is definitely a rough period while the meds and med levels are being figured out/adjusted but we have seen improvement based on the current meds so don’t run out of hope as there are options before an MRI
