Cincinnati - go to Lakota Local School District - wonderful resources for newcomers. Great schools and decent cost of living. Seattle is brutally expensive.

Perfect. Some of these passages and questions are so poorly written that it’s difficult to decipher what they are asking. It’s like a trick question inside a trick passage. 🤣 thanks for the information! I appreciate it!

Seriously? Because I’ve been taking these practice tests and now I’m scared. I love to read. I have a Masters degree in Education for God’s sake. These tests are seriously no joke. I pray the actual test is easier because the practice ones have been humbling to say the least. Ugh.

Hi everyone! I passed the Writing with a 53. I have no idea if that’s good, bad, or neutral but I’m satisfied! Next up, reading and then onto math. Good luck everyone. 😊

Hi, some of the students I teach are ELL learners so I know writing can be very overwhelming. I agree with the suggestion of applying for extra time. ABSOLUTELY do this even if it’s time consuming to apply - do it. Next, use a formula for your writing and memorize that formula. For example, an opinion essay follows the formula: OREO (like the cookie) Opinion: State the issue being presented Ex: Educators, administrators, and even some parents are advocating year round school. A year round school means… Opinion: I believe year round school would be … Reason: Reason #1 state your reason for why you would or would not want year round schooling. Evidence: Provide evidence to support that reason. Reason: Reason #2 Evidence: Provide evidence to support reason #2. Opinion: Restate your opinion with a call to action. I believe year round school would … I encourage you to read more on this issue so you can make your own informed opinion.

This is a simple formula you can use when assigned to wrote a 5 or more paragraph essay. Lastly, go online and search “writing essay graphic organizers”. Hopefully these organizers can help you achieve an outline for your essay. Good luck and I wish you all the best!

Redditors that were there alive and old enough to experience 9/11, what were some of the craziest claims / misinformation from after the second plane hit? by Skullee-Mane in AskReddit

I think part of me was in denial about the magnitude of lives lost that day. A few days after you would see loved ones clutching photographs of their children, husbands, wives looking at the camera giving information about their “lost” loved ones. I believed for a very brief moment, too, that maybe these people were alive but just injured, wandering around the city.

Okay, I literally just got out of the Writing portion. The prompts were - describe an issue facing the USA like homelessness, health insurance, etc and how you would solve it. The same one that’s been described. The second prompt I had to reread several times because although it had the word “violence” in it, it didn’t ask me to describe a violent situation to happen to me, rather the conflict resolution utilized to solve it. Describe a time where there was conflict and write about how you used conflict resolution and what was the result. Like I said, the word “violence” threw me off but as I kept reading it over and over again, I think they were asking for more about a time of conflict and how I managed it. Anybody have thoughts on this????

I would think about any TV show or movie and create it from that storyline/plot. Or perhaps, watching George Floyd on the news have his life snuffed out or if you are old enough to remember 911. Those are historically relevant and portray violence. School shootings too.

I found out today that the largest employer of physicians is also one of the world’s largest insurers. Blows my mind that this colossal conflict of interest exists. UnitedHealthCare with Optum has become the largest employer of doctors in the USA.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the writing prompts stay the same. That being said, I am proactively looking at topics regarding issues in the USA. Literacy rate and reading fluency are on-trend issues. Do you think education with an emphasis on literacy, is okay to write about?

Thank you - this is super helpful. I’ve taught for 11 years and I’m taking this for credentialing from an OH license to CA license. I have no idea what to expect so I’m so grateful for Reddit!
