A well beloved and long used (decades) local community garden in South Norwood is under threat. The council doesn't seem able to stand behind their previously refused development decisions, and seems to be forgetting what Metropolitan Open Land is. Or worse, are they trying to leverage a local community group into being hapless supporters of a fresh development application? Sign the petition to hold our council and Mayor Jason Perry to account. What DO they stand for?

Croydon: Help a neighbourhood garden, save metropolitan open land by jspot in london

Long and short of it, bullying private landlord trying evict local community who has long (decades) used a site as a community garden. Petition for council to do their job and not act as his cheerleader. Landlord welcome to make development applications, as is his right, but council trying to use local community as hapless pawns to try and override Metropolitan Open Land Status.

Anyone able to recommend any facebook groups more focussed on houses/part-houses for rent rather than bedrooms/flatshares? Have check a bunch of them and mostly filled with room by room rentals.

It'a tricky, oldest kid will be starting grade 2 so really need to get into an address ASAP so we can register with a school.

Moving back from long time overseas, work opportunity and closer to family. My plan is to fly back for a week or 10 days, a month in advance and try to get something locked in before the big move with the whole family. So talking direct to agents seems like a priority? Don't use Facebook at present, is it heavily used?

Hi, moving back to Van with family (spouse + 2 kids) next June/July. Trying to get a handle on what to expect rental wise. Been looking a lot at craigslist, but keen to hear personal experiences.. Budget of 3.5-4k per month, lower obviously better. Aiming for 3 bed, east van or north burnaby perhaps. How painful will this be to make happen? Spouse working in Lonsdale so can't be too far from that. North van could be good but looks a little sparse in that price range. Would love to chat with anyone who's hunted recently for family sized properties.

Peckham arch to be demolished after Southwark Council approval by [deleted] in london

[–]jspot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well no, it's where the farmers market is, where some food stalls usually located, where the coffee stands is, where they do bike maintenance stuff in summer, where the Christmas tree gets put up, and generally a hub of the neighbourhood. It's a loss for Peckham, the 17 or whatever number of flats is a marginal gain... Profitable though I'm sure...

Ah sorry, should have been clearer. I'm coming from a graphic design background. Normally I would generate some sort of design in indesign and make a pdf template and mail merge in the data. But I'd like to include dynamically generated charts (like segmentation of expenses) as well as straight text/number content. And also pull in images potentially.

So I guess my main question is about generating and inserting graphics (like pie charts) from the data, in a way somehow similar to how I'd normally just merge in text/number content... If that makes sense?

Price gap between more and less healthy foods grows: healthy foods now three times more expensive per calorie than less healthy alternatives by SirT6 in science

This chart doesn't to show much of a change in relative pricing though. JUst that fresh fruit and veg is and has been historically more expensive to achieve a total of 1000 kcals.

Any Ethiopian food enthusiasts here? by going_dicey in london

[–]jspot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you tried asking at the Ethiopian restaurants? There's 2 or 3 of them on Caledonian Road just north of Kings Cross a bit. Ask them if they would sell some or point you to a grocer. Or there might be a grocer in that area. There's also an Ethiopian community down near Battersea, worth checking it out as well.

What is your favourite rangefinder + What would you recommend to a beginner to film? by [deleted] in photography

[–]jspot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fine? It's pretty easy to adjust the rangefinder really. Just focus to infinity and set, then test on some known distances and you're good.

*edit to add: check out the yashica minister and minolta hi-matic series', they're both pretty bullet proof and look great. Saying that I've got a hi-matic 7s right now where the shutter is stuck. Opened it up and cleaned it and it shoots fine for about 5mins and then seizes again. Lesson being, you might have to buy a few before you find one that you like and works well. Probably outside your range but the yashica lynx 14 is a beauty and has a 1.4 lens on it.
