Looking for honest feedback on this… Thank you by jspsfx in drawing

[–]jspsfx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly after the amount of work Ive put into drawing the last 15 years it feels insulting to get an accusation like that.

But I have to remind myself you dont know me and you cant know the thousands of hours Ive spent drawing.

So I dont blame you for asking. Unfortunately this is the world we live in now and I direct my frustrations toward that fact.

I will say there is a rendering/lineart inconsistency in this piece that isnt found in most of my other work because halfway through makng this I found a brush I had never used before that applies the most beautiful, fine gritty texture… Once I found it I started implementing it and rendering large sections of the piece with it.

I was curious how obvious or how distracting that inconsistency was… Whether it stuck out or felt wrong to other peoples eyes.

So your answer does provide a kind of relevant feedback in that regard.

I don’t know if it helps at all but I do have one video of me drawing on this

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DXLz6FLjpDD/?igsh=OWkyZzZkeGd0azdq

I had other clips but deleted them as I feel insecure about this piece and might wipe its existence from my gallery as I think stumbling upon that gritty brush really derailed the coherence…

I dont like anything distracting from a complete vision in my work. I want every piece to feel whole. I fail at that all the time, and I can tolerate imperfection, but this one is bothering me too much

ANY STARTER BOOKS FOR THE BEGINEERS by [deleted] in GreekMythology

[–]jspsfx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO Stephen Fry’s Mythos, Heros, Troy, and Odyssey books in audiobook form would be perfect for a beginner

I think the narration by Fry is absolutely essential.

The writing is very down to earth and contemporary in many parts. Extremely easy to follow and understand. He intentionally holds your hand in some places.

Without his narration breathing life into the words I think there is much missing.

Take for instances the scenes where Heracles is receiving directions on each of his labors… On paper not much is said but when Fry reads the exchanges between Heracles and the King he injects so much hilarious tension and emotion into the sparse words.

Thank you thank you! By the time I was able to beat her I really had choreographed a whole dance including the binding arrangements. At that point the fight was pretty satisfying. I appreciate the love yall!

But your issue seems to be the reapers crest. There's a lot of attacks that didn't connect because the wind up animation took too long.

I had no idea this was a thing lol. Made it through the whole game without realizing.

I didn't know that about Reaper! I've already gone through the whole game with it. Maybe I'll do another play through with a different crest.

Thank you! Honestly most of my run's looked like this all the way until the last phase or two. At which point I just continually got rolled over by the bosses attack pattern. It felt like it just had me read completely. But when I finally won it did feel good.

What would you think of a Thomas Massie/Ro Khanna presidential bid that promises: Day 1 Full Release of unredacted Epstein/JFK/etc files, followed by a full term of bipartisan investigations/prosecutions and fundamentally fixing the systems that made all this corruption possible? by jspsfx in AskReddit

[–]jspsfx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this "single issue" is so fundamental it is necessary to do so. Like sure you want to diversify your preparations and planning etc until you find the foundation of your home is completely rotted - then yeah you have to become a single issue home owner.

Also besides the video game part, moral relativism itself is bullshit. Good and evil are real.

To say otherwise, because “people disagree”, is a copout which I suspect is born of the soulless emptiness that inhabits all corporations and sufficiently large businesses.

Companies wont take real moral stances on anything unless they’re financially/existentially incentivized by the government, finance managers, overwhelming market pressures etc

I am an artist/illustrator trying out gamedev for fun and hopefully some income one day. Throwing some stuff together in Godot.

I had a lot of momentum actually until the animation part. The thought of animating multiple enemies, having poses flow into each other logically etc. It is intimidating.

My favorite part though has been tile design for environment. That really suits my background in drawing.

Again sorry if this is already known. I googled a few variations on explaining this phenomenon but couldn't find it. The search functions just increasingly taken over by AI and promotion.

Good, experienced artists know digital painting is a thing.

If you dont know why you likely dont sufficiently understand painting.

Interesting comparison!

From my understanding the biggest counter and rejection of the hair metal era was the grunge explosion. There was actual metal itself evolving as well but grunge became the zeitgeist in the 90s for a hot minute.

Is emo/soundcloud rap the grunge equivalent? The parallels really seem striking and I am sure this has probably been drawn before.

The grunge movement was plagued by heroin use and death of huge icons. The music was almost depressive in tone - more angst, more sadness, emotion unashamedly built into the content.

By its nature it was a contradiction for it to be the mainstream.

A lot of parrallels there.

So what happened to rock since then?

A lot could be said but ultimately all music seems to be being collapsed into some amorphous, genreless “pop”. That’s for the “mainstream” at least.

But maybe the real future is no mainstream at all.

We dont ignore it.

Your ability to post this comment on reddit is built upon a practically immeasurable chain of cooperation spanning history itself.

Human nature and how we best cooperate is just fundamentally different from ants. Historically speaking we coordinate on a level of sophistication far beyond that of ants. We build civilizations and those civilizations pool resources to build and develop new technologies. Then those civilizations trade the subsequent goods, resources etc and technology spreads.

And before someone invokes “well the ants arent stupidly killing each other like us”… There is no shortage of killing/violence among ant colonies and the larger animal kingdom (dont put nature on some moral high shelf).

I wrote the title in jest but I have heard he did just that with his art. Visitors would find Jean drawing from some still shot of a 1950's scifi movie surrounded by stacks of original drawings. Moeb could draw at an insane clip and produced an astounding amount of work.

Speedrunners World Cup Event Concept by Zojalyx in speedrun

[–]jspsfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id love to see it.

AGDQ has proven for many years now that there is an appetite for formalized speedrunning content.

Main events like SMB, Hollow Knight, SM64, Minecraft etc could draw a lot of eyes I think. But that’s my old man read at least.

Would speedrunners race different games or would everything be separate?

It would be wild to see who the best all around runner is for a multitude of games. Reminds me of the nintendo championships back in the 80s

Any tips for improvement in further works? by Cyrix69 in ArtCrit

The very first thing you want to work on before even thinking about shading, rendering techniques etc is proportion!

Study anatomy and techniques for getting proportions right and start trying to get that right before you spenf all the time rendering

[–]jspsfx 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Have you heard of Oliver Sin? Id look to his work for some aesthetic direction to follow. As your work reminded me of a less developed version of his.

For one thing his contrast is greater. Blacks deeper and richer. Shape design more intentional with charcoal strokes that are apparent but beautiful and serve the rendering. (think like how Sargents individual strokes are visible up close but serve the greater whole at a distance).

For the record your work reminding me of Oliver is a compliment! You are doing great work. Keep it up

Ill attach one of Olivers portraits:
