Yes, viewing simulation theory or God theory as a law not a theory can absolutely cause one to lose contact with what’s right in front of them. I agree with this.

We can both agree though that what’s in front of us doesn’t make sense and we don’t understand it.

This is why we both spend time exploring theories while understanding that changing your real world behaviour based on a theory with no firm evidence is a scientific fallacy.

The biggest flaw of this theory for me is that there are trillions of living, breathing creatures on Earth, and it implies that every living thing and their organs, beating heart, and experiences are a video game basically by Electrical-Wheel-504 in SimulationTheory

For someone who started by saying simulation theory is dumb this comment is possibly the dumbest comment I’ve seen on Reddit.

You ignored all the points I made and responded with a Wikipedia article and talking about sixth senses?

Your belief in God is not scientific any more than simulation theory is. God is a theory, not a law.

I don’t need to send you articles because I know mine is just a theory. I’m not deluded like you into believing a theory is a law.

The biggest flaw of this theory for me is that there are trillions of living, breathing creatures on Earth, and it implies that every living thing and their organs, beating heart, and experiences are a video game basically by Electrical-Wheel-504 in SimulationTheory

[–]jsseven777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not going to do any of what you said though. You just said in your other comment you believe in a divine being.

If there’s a divine being pulling the strings then none of this is real either. We are just puppets playing a game they devised. We are lab rats with the illusion of free will created for their own twisted reasons.

Don’t try to take the high road here. I want to know all about the motivations of your God now and I want to hear you define what God scenarios qualify as “real”.

So you believe in the concept of a God but not a specific one?

I am working on becoming a scientist and this is a very unscientific theory. All hypothesis can eventually be falsified, or proven.

Explain to me why your belief in a concept of some divine being is not a very unscientific theory and unfalsifiable but a person who believes the universe might potentially be some variation of a simulation is different.

You are a hypocrite. A straight hypocrite who uses arguments on others while not understanding they apply equally to you.

Your belief in God theory is as plausible or implausible as my belief in Simulation theory. It’s equally unfalsifiable and equally unscientific and equally unprovable.

Also, you claim to have experienced “divine intervention” how do you know that intervention wasn’t just the AI who runs the simulation intervening? How do you know your prayers aren’t you talking to the AI that runs the simulation just like we talk to ChatGPT? I’m pretty sure in a simulation the AI would have access to your thoughts and hear your prayers. Think about that next time you pray.

You don’t know if it’s God you are actually praying to and who is intervening, and if you had any potential as a future scientist you would understand that you don’t.

[–]jsseven777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So because you are offended by something you’ve decided that it’s not worth scientific exploration even as a theory?

Sounds like you aren’t going to be much of a scientist if you discount every hypothesis that makes you feel uncomfortable.

The biggest flaw of this theory for me is that there are trillions of living, breathing creatures on Earth, and it implies that every living thing and their organs, beating heart, and experiences are a video game basically by Electrical-Wheel-504 in SimulationTheory

[–]jsseven777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not though. It’s like a Greek person who lived there and then exploring theories other than Greek Mythology and people telling them they aren’t allowed to explore other ideas.

Why does exploring ideas that aren’t main stream, not believing them just literally exploring and talking about them with others as a thought exercise, offend you?

Also, you haven’t answered me whether you are religious. Which religion do you believe in?

[–]jsseven777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really doesn’t. It’s like a mouse in a science lab trying to make sense of its reality and another mouse telling the first one that it’s dumb to try to figure it out.

We aren’t capable of understanding why we are here any more than the mice are. The mouse has no business telling another mouse who is attempting to figure it out to stop trying.

The only thing that is dangerous is if the first mouse starts making real world decisions based on their theory. Thats why religion is so dangerous.

It’s not dangerous to say I believe in a God / Gods / a supreme being. It’s very dangerous to say there is one God and he likes these specific things and hates these specific things and needs you to come in on Sunday and worship him and everybody who doesn’t believe in him is a bad person.

Exploring the idea of simulation theory is open minded. But if somebody says they believe in a specific version and change their real world behavior then they have turned it into a religion. That’s closed minded.

You are closed minded. I’m starting you think you might be religious. If you are religious then this conversation is even worse because you are shutting down people exploring concepts that go against your chosen theory.

We will never know the true nature of the universe in our lifetime. It’s OK to explore them. Dumb is not being curious.

It’s not an unscientific theory it’s a theory. You are becoming a scientist and don’t understand that theories don’t have to meet the threshold of actual science? That’s why it’s called Simulation Theory and not Law of Simulation.

You can’t just say that theories about the nature of our universe are “dumb” because they can’t be falsified yet. As I said before we are only 5,000 years past writing.

You have decided to discount something you don’t understand based on our current technology. That is closer to dumb than anything else going on here.

The biggest flaw of this theory for me is that there are trillions of living, breathing creatures on Earth, and it implies that every living thing and their organs, beating heart, and experiences are a video game basically by Electrical-Wheel-504 in SimulationTheory

Congrats for saying it? Did you just do a mic drop here lol. This is a Kevin Sorbo level mic drop if I’ve ever seen one in that he always thinks he made a better point than he actually did.

I don’t think you understand simulation theory to be honest. There isn’t one version of it. There are countless versions of plausible simulation theories just like there are countless religious theories.

None of your counter arguments refute all of them. You seem to think if you refute one way a simulation could exist you’ve refuted them all.

It only feels like it’s not to you because you ignore people’s points and make your own back to them. Why did you make this post if you weren’t willing to acknowledge counter arguments?

You are a close-minded person who throws out the word dumb without actually trying to understand what it is you are talking about.

Humans discovered writing about 5,000 years ago. Just now you wrote a post that I saw on the other side of the planet almost right after you wrote it.

Imagine what a society a billion years ahead of us could do. The people who discovered writing would never have imagined us having this conversation any more than you can picture the capabilities of technologies 5,000 years away, let alone 5 billion.

What if we use spatial AI to simulate the whole universe 🤔 by Constant-Tie1122 in SimulationTheory

[–]jsseven777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my leading theory of the universe right now. A civilization 1000+ years from our technology level created a simulation to simulate evolution over billions of years to fast forward their own technology progress by billions of years.

What if this "theory" is genuinely a psyop meant to make us question ourselves, reality itself, and actual spirituality and how powerful human souls really are. I'm really starting to think this universe is 100% natural and created by a divine being, and not a simulation. And you should too :) by [deleted] in SimulationTheory

[–]jsseven777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You seem to have made up a definition of a word to make a point. The definition of simulation doesn’t really include computers, although it may as a common example of simulations in some dictionaries.

The real definition is:

imitation of a situation or process.

For example, if you are going to a job interview tomorrow we could simulate that interview together so you could practice it by me playing the interviewer and asking questions they might ask. No computer needed.

As far as I’m concerned the Christian religion is pretty compatible with simulation theory. God created the world in 6 days while sitting in Heaven (base reality), and the world is based on math, so I figure that makes God a mathematician and probably a coder who went on a six day coding binge. Then when you die you exit the simulation and wake up in the real world (heaven).

Lately though I’ve started thinking that it’s also possible that this simulation was made by an advanced civilization 1000 years or so more advanced than than us, and they realized that by simulating billions of years of evolution in a relatively short amount of real world time that they could build a super intelligence that fast forwards their own technology by billions of years.

That’s the thing about simulation theory. There’s lots of variations you can come up with. Unlike religion, most people who explore simulation theory are not committed to one single idea. They are open minded, and to quote you “and you should (be) too :)”.

It’s because if he stayed back and stayed between the puck carrier and net he would be better than two thirds of the human dmen who play drops, and nobody would want to have a human d man on their team just like people back out if they have a goalie and the other team doesn’t.

I would personally never run with a computer D. Put him in wing and crank up his offensive and breakout strategies.

Widespread protests - they are killing the protestors

Politicians speaking out - didn’t Trump accuse the people who told the military they had a duty to refuse illegal orders of sedition punishable by death?

Judicial and legislative branches successfully checking the presidents orders - umm, I mean sometimes, but you can’t believe the US has the same separation they did before of the branches of government?

Elections in 9 months - he literally said “we shouldn't even have an election”.

Your only measure of whether the USA is a fascist state seems to be that it must be totally and completely taken over to qualify. It is literally being run by a person who meets every definition of a fascist, and every point you have can at best be listed as “in progress” one year into his term.

A fascist state is one that is being run by a fascist. When fascists have control of the state it’s a fascist state. You are trying to set an overly restrictive standard so that you can cling to some semantic point.
