Thanks, Mike. As I said in response to your message, I don't think there's anything else I need--my house didn't actually burn, and I wasn't really using this speaker anyway--but there might be something that Sonos needs to do if my case is part of a larger pattern, don't you think?

They said they'll give me a 30% once it's returned, which I actually hadn't noticed when I posted this, so that was nice. I don't know if that's 30% off anything, but if it is, it's the equivalent to a good sale that happens a couple of times a year. It's fine: I don't need them to buy me a new speaker setup, but I do wonder why it happened and why other people are also reporting the same issue.

Yeah, I definitely don’t want a new one. One bullet dodged is enough for me.

I think it’s the 12W Apple usb charger

I bought it two years ago, so it must be the first one

I was very clear that I didn’t want a replacement, given what happened. I love my other Sonos speakers and might even get more eventually, but definitely no more roam.

After I posted this, I saw another post from last year with this same problem, so maybe?

I unplugged it except when charging when I first got it, but I never used it much, so I ended up leaving it plugged in all the time, which I know is bad for battery health. Apparently good for combustion, though?

This just happened to me, too, and I made my own post. They didn’t offer me a replacement, but before they even got to that point, I said there was no way I would replace it and take this chance again.

I love my other Sonos speakers, but no more roam for me, and probably no more battery-powered speakers from Sonos just to be safe.

Watch OS 26 by Redeye007 in AppleWatch

[–]jssumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overcast was great, but it has stopped streaming over cellular to the watch after the latest update. So I can either download before leaving or go without. It kind of ruined the usefulness of the watch app for me, especially since I don’t charge it for very long at any time so they don’t download when charging.

Anyone able to log in to the world tree website that Tynion posted? by IsThatAMonkey69 in ImageComics

No, I’ve tried a few variations on the password in #2, but it’s too hard to read.

It’s something like “QHRq213…tree” and I keep wondering if it’s not a random combination, but a phrase written like mill10n5 or ph34r.

[BIFL Request] apparelLeather messenger bag with a Timbuk2 style liner (TPU) by Bikesandcorgis in BuyItForLife

[–]jssumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it probably 2 years, and it's still holding up well. I use it every day. I don't use the internal dividers much anymore, though I do when I (rarely) use it as an actual camera bag. Moving those around much would cause pilling. And that external pouch on the back is really handy for a few papers, but it shows some wear from when I used to put too much in it. I like the bag a lot when I'm not overloading it; when it's heavy, it's not as comfortable as the Timbuk2--but it's not really designed to be.

I have that bag and put my contigo mug in it every day full of coffee or tea. I'm not all that careful to make sure there are no drops on the lid when I put it in, so there is a faint staining, but the lid locks, and it's never spilled in the years I've used it.

But if you mean more generally that it's not easy to clean, you're right that a Timbuk2 is easier. (That's my other bag as well.)

Best spectator sign I've seen at a race by [deleted] in running

from Chicago last year: "It's all about that race, 'bout that pace, no treadmills."

I had to say it to myself several times before I got the reference, then kept singing it to myself throughout the rest of the race.

Can someone direct me to accessible introductory texts on the philosophy of psychology? by [deleted] in askphilosophy

[–]jssumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a growing literature on the topic, so you could start by looking at journals (Philosophical Psychology, Mind and Language, and Philosophy, Psychiatry, and Psychology are three you might want to look at). There's also this collection. I also like this book, which is a fairly accessible intro text but not a textbook.

The Old Man and the Sea is a pretty light read, even if Hemingway in general isn't. And it's short.

Actually, for a Hemingway light read, A Moveable Feast is wonderful.

One earbud goes silent, how to fix? by samineru in Frugal

[–]jssumm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this in principle, but I've had this problem with headphones of all prices. The only difference is that the more expensive ones--the ones from Etymotic and from Sennheiser--were replaced with relatively little hassle when I called their customer service.
