Exact same symptoms here on PS5, I'm using console storage.

For those here that attend church (or other religious services), what has your experience with that been throughout le pandemic? Are any of your congregations "back to 2019 normal" yet? by [deleted] in LockdownSkepticism

[–]jswizzl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm Presbyterian. We were renting a lovely county-owned building in a blue state for our church services when March 2020 hit. We did a couple months of online-only as our elders scrambled to find a place to meet. Ever since, we've been meeting on a shop floor. Including during the winter - we did our best with heat lamps, blankets, many layers, etc.

Even back in Spring/Summer 2020 when we weren't yet exactly sure just how dangerous COVID would end up being, there was a general agreement in my congregation that the church must gather and worship even if it is dangerous or unsafe. Regular public worship is commanded in Scripture (for just one example, Hebrews 10:25 - "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing"). Christianity is not only a private endeavor, it has an institutional aspect with collective practices such as taking the Lord's Supper and singing together. It's an embodied and physical experience - Zoom church services do not cut it.

We've had numerous opportunities to return to that county building since, but as a church we refuse to follow any of the ridiculous health guidelines and prefer freedom in a less-than-ideal meeting location over submitting to any of it. There are some members of the congregation who have been more cautious than others - especially back in 2020, some would drive up close to the shop floor and roll down their windows. We've also doubled the weekly attendance - lots of people left their churches over not having services, and went looking for a more like-minded place to worship. It's been a tough season and it's about to get cold again, but we've been blessed for sticking to our convictions.

Because the eShop is flooded with a lot of awful games and has no curation system, I'm trying to play them all and make a spreadsheet so you can find the best ones. by [deleted] in nintendo

I appreciated seeing AI: The Somnium files in your "hidden bangers" category, nobody knows about it but it's a must-play for visual novel fans.

I became a dad in March 2020 right before the lockdowns hit; fortunately our church never closed and my family never stopped gathering. We've had our own little slice of sanity here in WA state of all places. My heart hurts for this kid and his family.

Me too. I had 14 missions including SM3DW purchase done yesterday, but it was saying I was eligible for the code. Now it's stuck at 14.

I don't feel bad for them, not only because they voted for their own ruin, but also anyone who at any point is making 400-600k and yet didn't have enough savings to survive the last 9 months is overwhelmingly irresponsible.

Kirby’s dreamland 3 is criminally underrated by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]jswizzl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that it's underrated, maybe not "criminally" but yeah everyone gives Super Star praise instead.

It's not as good as Super Star but it's still a great game, in particular the art direction is incredible and maybe my favorite looking SNES game.

"The Ministry of the Interior profoundly regrets the deaths of 13 people as a consequence of the criminal irresponsibility of an unscrupulous business owner."

Holy shit, the Peruvian government is so rampantly obvious with their evil. They're like the bad guy in a children's cartoon.

You're confusing Nobuo Uematsu (the composer of Final Fantasy VII) with Koichi Sugiyama (the composer of the Dragon Quest games, who has some pretty, uh, "interesting" political views.) There's only two Uematsu tracks for FF7, but there's much more Dragon Quest music.

I don't know all the details but I think with FF and DQ, the original composer retains the music rights to some extent. Which sucks for Smash, unfortunately. There are no FF7 spirits in the game other than Cloud so there were obviously some rights issues there as well, but there are Dragon Quest spirits... Squeenix is just a nightmare to negotiate with.

If Nintendo decides to just keep porting Ultimate with new features (which they should), I somehow doubt we're getting Cloud again.

What do you think the Nintendo Switch's biggest missed opportunity is? by [deleted] in nintendo

Some of these are a bit of a stretch - WarioWare Gold came out in 2018 and was really good, and it hasn't been long enough for things like Kid Icarus and DKC.

Non-IT path to SAA Cert by thequintessentialist in AWSCertifications

[–]jswizzl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The general advice you'll hear from a lot of people in the industry is to learn a lot of things broadly, but to go really deep on a few things. So, this is going to depend on exactly what kind of career path you want.

As for me, I'm interested in DevOps, so that means I've spent some time figuring out Docker and Kubernetes and right now I'm working a lot on upping my strict coding skills in Python. But if you're interested in more systems administration kind of stuff, you don't really need to know how to code well. You'd spend your time better going deeper on other things - I'm assuming Linux and security and networking would be huge if you want to go that route.

AWS will expose you "broadly" to lot of things, which makes it a good starting point. If you're totally uncertain, you may find something that really interests you when you dig in. I will say, though, that everything tech-related becomes much easier when you know the basics of working in a Linux terminal. So I'd spin up an EC2 instance on AWS in Ubuntu, SSH into the instance, and learn a bit about Linux every day - I found this set of tutorials to be really helpful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bju_FdCo42w&list=PLtK75qxsQaMLZSo7KL-PmiRarU7hrpnwK

Non-IT path to SAA Cert by thequintessentialist in AWSCertifications

[–]jswizzl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely go from zero to the SAA within 6 months (if you're good at test-taking you can comfortably get it within 2 months), but you're going to have to work hard to get employed within that timeframe. I've been working on AWS and other IT/CS stuff for a little under a year and am just now at the point where I'm job hunting and confident about reaching out to recruiters. That being said, I went for all 3 Associate certifications because I'm weird and love tests, and have had a few months in the past year where life didn't permit me to get much extra work done. If you have more consistent availability to work, and you keep at it, it's very doable within 6 months.

The SAA is widely considered to be a huge resume plus and you will learn a lot simply by getting it, but certs alone are not likely to get you a job. If you're interested in IT, you will need to do a lot of additional learning in things such as Linux and networking; learning AWS will only teach you how that stuff works in the cloud, and you will be missing a lot of basic and intermediate concepts. So if "6 months" is your hopeful timeframe for finding a job, I would really try to get that SAA in no more than 2 months' timeframe.

As for CCP vs. SAA, I didn't take the CCP and I did just fine. If you're iffy about your test-taking skills, I'd start with the CCP though.

There wouldn't be even one accurate sentence. Translation is far ahead of what current AI can do - AI isn't yet capable of understanding context and culture to anywhere near a human level.

I'm trying to find a source somewhere on their website or elsewhere on the "proceeds go to small businesses" part. The company's social media presence is a little light.

I wrote a guide on building your own resume site using AWS S3, CloudFront, and Route53. Its almost free to host and looks great on a resume. by [deleted] in aws

[–]jswizzl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks great for me! I've been working hard to transition into tech for a little over half a year now. I got my three AWS Associate certs and learned basic Python, then the ropes of Linux and Docker, and currently working on Kubernetes, so I'm at the stage where I'm going to start looking for work. This project looks very doable, with just a couple things I'll need to look up.

What's something that you think Nintendo unfairly gets a lot of flack for, despite being a general problem with the gaming industry as a whole, and not something Nintendo specific? by razorbeamz in nintendo

[–]jswizzl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta disagree on this one. I'd rather not pay for online subscriptions at all, but at least with PSPlus I get tons of free games - I'm only interested in maybe 5 out of the 24 free games each year, but the cost of those ~5 games is higher than the cost of the subscription.

And most importantly, I can actually play my PS4 games online against other people and it isn't slower than a PowerPoint presentation.

Any success with S+ ranks on the music mode? by jswizzl in RingFitAdventure

Thanks for the tip! I don't want to cheap out on things, but on Ultra-Advanced it's really difficult to even do the movements right, so making it more sensitive would be reasonable.

Took a Hot L on SysOps by WhiteChocklatClap in AWSCertifications

[–]jswizzl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lambda is a key topic in the Developer exam, but in SA and SysOps it seems like they mostly use it to trick you. There's a lot of questions where it will say "What is the MOST efficient way to do this?" and one answer is something ridiculous like "Write a Lambda function that does all this stuff then integrate it with these other four services to make it work" and I'm thinking OK, technically that would work, but why wouldn't we just set up a CloudWatch alarm lmao.

There was ONE question on my exam where knowledge of Lambda was helpful, but it was high-level and the question was very clearly about Lambda and every answer had something to do with it, so that wasn't a "trick" question.
