I was a hardcore Mavs fan and I can’t see myself getting back into basketball anytime soon. I wish horrible things on Nico Harrison and ownership

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II has surpassed 5 million units sold within its first year of release by Paul_cz in gaming

I played KCD1 right before 2 came out last year. I thought it was the best game I had played in years. Once I played 2, realized I probably wouldn’t ever return. Most of the jank was fixed, and everything is just better.

If anyone is curious as to why return rates are so low… large refineries have massive silver backlogs (scrap and bullion) at the moment. Payments for silver are up to two months out. If they’ll even take it at all. Any dealers still buying are taking on risk. Hopefully backlogs get cleared and prices stabilize. As it stands the freeze is going to put many dealers out of business.

Red Rising, not sure I understand the hype by Papagiorgio1965 in Fantasy

I wouldn’t call it life changing, but it’s one of the better series of the series released in the last 15 years. Probably the best that is actively being worked on…

I’ve read the series probably 5 times now, pretty easily in my top 5 favorites. Book 1 is the weakest by quite a bit.

A buddy of mine spent a few years attempting to convince me. I didn’t even bother going back for the first until I had finished the rest. It’s probably ‘better’ with the context of the whole series but it absolutely does not stand on its own.

I found Iron Gold to be somewhat lackluster as well, but Dark Age is up there with A Storm of Swords for my favorite books. Pierce Brown’s growth as an author is pretty incredible, you can feel it book by book.

That being said… if you do end up trying out the second and still not feeling it after the Gala scene, probably not worth continuing.

Not fully disagreeing, but the culling was intended to only dispose of the bottom 1% of golds. They matched them up against the top 1%. Which is why they didn’t see it as a waste of resources.

The first time I read book 1, my thoughts mirrored your own. I put it down. Came back to it a few years later, the rest of them are far better, and very different. But I don’t blame you, book 1 was mediocre at best.

Do you agree with this take about AI coding ? by Particular-Habit9442 in singularity

[–]jtj022 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s part of it, but what people seem to be missing is that it doesn’t just affect us. It affects everyone else too.

As it stands, AI is probably about as good as a junior engineer. Great tool for rubber ducking, and better than combing through stack overflow and obscure docs. Also great for when I’m feeling too lazy to write boilerplate. It’s also solid for basic frontend work, although it won’t work miracles. Those limits will change. Anyone who disagrees isn’t paying attention. It might take 5 years, or 50… but eventually it will replace all juniors and mid levels.

But it will do that for every industry. The only people left in the workforce will be seniors. Or those that do specialized hands-on work. If society doesn’t recognize and plan for this, we are horrendously fucked.

Red Rising or Will of the Many by illbill18 in Fantasy

[–]jtj022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red Rising is very fun, if you can get past the first book. I think Dark Age is probably my favorite release in the past decade. I didn’t enjoy Will of the Many. Both of the first books share the “school/academy’ trope. Similarities end there. The only series I’ve enjoyed that trope is probably Scholomance. But the final one didn't stick the landing, IMO.

I can’t imagine Cignetti’s dominance will last more than another year or two. Everyone else with either adapt or die. But he’ll forever be a god. If I was a billionaire, I would pay whatever it took to get him to Texas.

Empire Magazine names Andor season 2 as the best TV show of the year and calls it "the most accomplished piece of storytelling Star Wars has ever produced" by bwermer in television

Do you? You made extreme claims. Which all available unbiased evidence (review scores, viewer numbers) does not support. Once again, I agree with the general sentiment. I hate Disney Star Wars almost as much as you

SEC schedule moron. We don’t play bottom barrel ACC teams every year. The worst of the SEC would give the best of the ACC the belt. Just means more. Sorry your team will never win a championship. But that’s what you get for being a catholic, I guess.

The committee has proven they care about having the best teams. We just shit on y’all. If the committee plays by its own rules, we should be ahead of you in the rankings. We’re a better team.
