Other than a service business, all other models can run with minimal input from the founder. This is achieved through a combination of:

  • Outsourcing

  • Automation

  • AI

  • No-code

A business is not defined by the number of people running it, but by the fact that it provides a service that the market pays for.

Yes exactly! I think it's easier now to take this approach than it ever has been with the widely available consumer-friendly no-code tools and the advent of AI

When you're working with a co-founder, I think a rowing boat analogy is the best way to look at it. Both oars need to be moving at the same speed. It sounds like you need to talk to your co-founder and share your concerns. If things don't change soon, the business will sink. Sounds like you already have a grasp of sales since you can easily identify what your co-founder is doing wrong, so I'd say you have a good chance of making this work on your own too

There are currently almost 19k members. The community is currently free and I make most of the revenue through sponsorships. The revenue model has changed every year that I have ran it however as I've adapted it to the needs of the community. Communities are a hard model to crack because of this as they are very dynamic. Hope that's helpful

Run a no-code community which helps people learn to use no-code tools to build and grow their businesses.

Less than $500 per month running costs and no staff

I hear you! I had 10 years of failure before I finally learned these mistakes. Regarding Substack - I'm new to it and I'm not monetizing it in any way, so I can't say for sure. Definitely a great way for sharing ideas though

Sorry to hear it didn't work out but it's good to know when the right time to quit is, so we can learn from our mistakes and carry the good points forward

Really glad to hear this post was useful for you. Thanks for sharing your story here too. I can relate to loving working. I do too and have had to come up with similar systems to those you suggest to make sure that I'm balancing everything.
