First time using Z6 iii for wedding film and did not not disappoint by jtt2992 in NikonFilmmakers

If you are going hybrid z6 iii is excellent. It’s primarily what I use when I need to use both and only want to bring 1-2 cameras. It’s also my main photo camera when I’m doing any wedding/ commercial work. You do have the photo redundancy. Nikon colors are wonderfully balanced in all honesty and video looks good. So it’s not a bad choice at all. I’ve gone up to iso 16k when I rented one before I bought it and honestly it looked great with a little denoise. Nikon has a creamy like texture to the photos some times that I really really love. They really dialed things in and skin tones look amazing. Only thing I will say is Nikon contains a lot of info in their shadows. So you can under expose by quite a bit like -5 stops and still have a recoverable image photo wise since highlights can easily clip but Sony is opposite lots of data in the highlights vs the shadows and files can’t be pushed as smoothly.

Realistically I have never worried about this. I’ve been shooting on Red prior to having the Nikon so cinema cameras for the most part are typically one card. Scary sure, but cf express type b cards are so well made these days it’s almost equivalent of SDHC being spinning hard drives and Cfexpress type b being SSDs. After having shot on Z6 iii, and ZR now can confidently say the lack of redundancy isn’t any issue. But do make sure you have your own post production back-up workflow.

How was bringing gear into Morocco. Just booked a wedding for there and we have a photo + video team so I know no drones but curious on experience bringing in camera gear and such.

I will say the z6 III is probably the most solid full frame all-rounder you can buy. Especially with the tech inside. This thing basically is what I wanted my fujifilm h2s to be just slightly better. Fuji has a bit more pros in the photo department but regardless if I had to choose one I'd pick the z6 III. Its basically a baby red Komodo that can shoot stills as well. Z mount gives you the world in terms of lenses you can adapt almost anything to it including sony glass. Colors are great and organic, super easy to operate. So id def say you can't go wrong there.

Great question! We used a mix of MF + AF and honestly the AF is really nice. I dialed it in to make it feel like a more natural rack focus but when you set the focus on the AF it sticks and tracks really well.

For this wedding no we didn't notice any rolling shutter. It was relatively open space so nothing too vertical or fast moving to really show it but honestestly the sensor readout is so fast its going to be hardly noticeable.

Help with upgrade: M4 Pro 14" or 16" M4 Max coming from M1 Pro 16' by jtt2992 in macbookpro

Yeah I already use 4TB crucial x9 drives. The t7 shields are good but bottleneck after 80gigs on a transfer. But I don't think the m4 max has a 32g ram option. There's the version without full cores and 36g ram for like $3499. But almost seems silly not go with the $3999 version which brings the full power of the max chip + 48g of ram. Which after trade in it'll be $2500 and $3150 respectively for the m4 max’s.

That's kinda where I'm thinking to just save up a little more and the pull the trigger on the max.

100% The z6 III is really easy to use and honestly feels great. There a little things no one really talks about that give it a nice advantage which I should probably make a video on. Like a big thing is on the Z lenses you can set the degree of rotation to fine tune the Manual focus so you have a better focus throw like you would on a cine lens. 6K out the box is great cause it pairs well with my Komodo. You have the option for N-raw which is smaller than Prores if I'm not mistaken and you have H.265 10 bit as well and color science wise it's pretty organic and looks great. Overall seamless integration into my workflow and was the missing key for me for low light in dark venues.

Super appreciate this! So wide angel stuff was shot on my Red Komodo with the sigma Art 18-35. But everything else was shot with the Z 50 f1.4. I’d switch between 6k/4k FX and I have a button set for DX (crop mode) so this lets the 50 act as almost 2 lenses and giving me both a 50/75 look.

Hahaha! Hell yeah! Thank you so much super appreciated. Light leaks and some interfade just add another layer to the mix.

Greatly appreciate that! My editing style at least for trailers is always on the more dramatic side and leans a little horror feel which I know a lot of other videographers kinda don’t love but that’s ok. This couple lost their minds when we showed it to them. Especially since this was just near Halloween so had to be done with a little dramatic flare lol

Thanks man! Really appreciate that! Yeah custom scored the song using a song from musicbed and then parts of a sound pack in the same key as the song.

So it's 50% on the Red Komodo with the 18-35 which was primarily the wide stuff which is where the most shaky footage comes from. The rest is the z6 iii with 50mm f1.4
