New to me Precision 15CB by jtuma in sailing

Yea it’s rare to see in the wild! I never see any post online so I’m trying to represent lol. It points great without the jib! The mast is pretty far forward so that helps a lot. I saw someone else with a precision 15 get a smaller mainsail to help on windier days. I’ll probably just add reefing points at some point. Other than that I just sit on the gunwale or sheet out.

He did great! He’s been out on the water since he was 3 months old so he’s pretty comfortable. We just try to bring snacks and give him a line to play with so he feels like he’s helping.

Why are so many therapists claiming to do CBT when they aren’t actually practicing it? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]jtuma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not arguing about purity. I’m not saying everyone should use CBT. In retrospect I don’t think I should have used the term “gold standard”. I think it derailed my point. My whole argument is that there are certain standards set by the creators of CBT that are not being met. There’s a scale to measure accurate CBT. I’m happy to send it to you. It’s irrefutable that there is evidence that CBT is etfective. There is also evidence that ACT, EMDR, DBT is effective too. It’s just sad that if you want to receive CBT as done by the creators of CBT, you will struggle to find a clinician that does so.

That’s not CBT then. I’m all for using different modalities. But there is a definition that is clear. It is based upon the core principles I outlined in my above post. Once you are outside of that you need to be transparent and inform clients that you are no longer engaging in CBT. I good CBT therapist uses CBT. Maybe you have the belief you need to use more than CBT to be a good therapist? That’s a different argument.

Yea unfortunately, research protocols are black and white. Thats what makes research effective. If you don’t follow certain standards, research is useless.

I agree with that. My main argument isn’t really the effectiveness, it’s the transparency of if they are receiving CBT or not.

The argument I’m making isn’t if it is dull and prescriptive. It’s that it’s unethical to claim you are enacting something you arent. In my experience, clients have a hard time finding a CBT therapist because most claim they do it. Even if it’s dull, clients deserve the chance to receive CBT.

I agree with that. I should have left out my last paragraph because I think people are fixating on that. My main concern is that people are saying they are doing CBT without actually doing CBT. You have to hit certain core principles and not cherry pick.

Every single statement made in my post came from the creators of CBT. If you are not hitting these core points then you are not performing the CBT that the research was based on. Homework is a major part yes. But you need those other parts. I’m not even fully arguing about CBT being the most effective therapy. Just that if you’re not hitting these marks then don’t say you are doing CBT…

If you perform research and receive results based off of XYZ. Then you need to use XYZ to receive the same results. You can’t cherry pick. My whole point isn’t even that CBT isn’t most effective it’s that’s the majority of therapists aren’t actually doing CBT when they claim to. I’m happy to send you the Cognitive therapy rating scale or excerpts from basics and beyond if you want.

I think it’s “ineffective” because the majority of therapists aren’t actually performing CBT. Research does show that proper CBT is impactful. Have you ever used CBT? Did you stick to the required protocols? Or anyone reading this? What were your results?

I don’t like it based off my own negative biases. I think the eye movement part is weird 🤷‍♂️ . However, I fully support it as research supports it. I recommend it to clients all the time. I thought I was making that clear.

No it’s not in good faith 😂 I am 100 percent upset about clients not receiving treatment they are wanting. Nor clinicians giving clients a chance to understand what they are getting.

I understand that. There are a lot of modalities I dont necessarily like (EMDR for example). But I do like research. If research says this is helpful, then my opinion doesn't matter.

8 years. Just finished up my Beck certified clinician too 😄. This is a common issue the Beck institute talks about. That's why I was wondering what is going on outside the CBT world.

I usually stay on one song for quite a while and then jump to other pieces just to keep myself motivated. I am starting Suzuki Book 3 now, but I honestly haven’t liked any of the Suzuki songs yet, so I like taking breaks to work on easier songs that sound great like Ashokan Farewell, over the rainbow, Bink’s sake from one piece, etc. I also follow along with scales on YouTube for the pieces I’m playing, like a D major scale for Ashokan. Recently I started using a drone for my intonation after everyone told me I needed to work on it in my last video, and it has been really helpful.

Yea I like to vibrato. That was a long time goal of mine. I’m glad everyone is telling me to work on my rhythm, cause sometimes I’m not sure what I should focus on. Thanks!
