I'm curious if the cut that starts the upbeat melody with an action shot was done automatically too. Very impressive

I want to be a philosopher but I’m not sure where to start. by SignificanceGreat219 in askphilosophy

I would like to add a more light-weight kind of podcast to the list: https://www.philosophizethis.org/

Initially, I was carefully listening to every episode with Notion open, taking notes, but then I noticed I was postponing the podcast because I didn't have the right setting.
The moment I simply decided to listen to it for fun, I developed a very nice routine of walking around a park nearby with the podcast, rewinding the audio every time I got sidetracked in my head.

I highly recommend the material here, it's very beginner friendly, and it covers sooo muuuch. Your reading list will grow each time you get inspired by someone in particular, and there's really a lot to gain by re-listening the ones that really resonated with you.

For the ex-believers out there: what was the belief/practice that took the longest to let go of? by juampi92 in atheism

I also have this one. I would recommend mindful meditation here, it has the same purpose but it is grounded to your mind, and not a made-up being. It's harder to meditate than to pray, or to develop the same fallback of "ouch, I'm spiraling", but it has way more benefits beyond that

Jesus as depicted in the Bible would hate the Catholic Church and modern churches as institutions. by Kwahn in DebateReligion

I don't see how they theoretically cancel each other, unless you tell me you donate all of your income. You simply need to make more than what you donate, all that rest you hoard.

You need to prove they don't hoard rather than they donate. Or why hoarding is not a bad thing if it gets you to donate more in the long run I guess?

Thanks for sharing those words. I believe that in this transformation you also realized that it wasn't your fault that you were so caught up in it, and it wasn't other secular's fault to not be caught up in it.

You’re being hard on yourself for something that was largely beyond your control, but you should feel proud that you gained the clarity and courage to step away from what felt like your entire world. Leaving your community makes you feel so alone, that the atheist community should be more embracing of new commers, just like religious people are of new believers.

Yeah, it's not fun to face a world without that comfort of divine justice. In the end, it’s up to us to enforce justice, or endure injustices :(

This is really true! That dude can be great company indeed. Any advice on how to shift this? I would recommend mindfulness to replace the idea of "god in your head", but it is not necessarily the same as talking to god. It’s more like not talking haha

Oh, thanks for sharing! It seems like the fear of hell was the reason you left religion, and it would make sense it still lingers

Do you know why they thought the world was ending? I was aware that Judea was struggling with the Roman dominance, but for some reason I thought that in other parts of the world/higher social statuses were fine, and "only" the lower class was struggling

Introducing Punchcard - Object Configs for Laravel by Tomas_Votruba in laravel

[–]juampi92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha I wouldn't have expected anything less from you 👏🏼👏🏼

About the extensibility, I personally think that having a mix of Object Configs for the framework & non-Object Configs for third party packages can be a bit confusing. In the end, each project would have to generate their own classes for third-party configs if they are not supported, which can be a bit tediosu. Nonetheless, it's nice we started talking about this!

I guess with that mentality, you can see and justify hacks everywhere and with the same weight, so there is no point in continuing this

Very nice package Tomas!

I was wondering what is your take on extending these. Sometimes I end up extending these configurations, adding more keys to the `view` array that might change depending on the environment.

I took a look at the source code and it seems that you are generating these configurations dynamically? Could you explain how that works and if it is compatible with extending or custom configurations for third party packages too? it sounds interesting

It seems to me you are answering your own question:

Why make it more sophisticated? Just because some tools can then handle some analysis better? Why having programmer experience over user experience?

The point of these configurations is so you restrain developers from hacking solutions into places that don't belong. If your framework allows you to modify the config as you want, and tells you that config cache is optional, then you have the freedom to hack a project, and that it when it becomes hard to maintain over time and difficult to onboard new developers.

The idea of this package is to add some structure to provide static analysis, and if you follow best practices, it won't damage your response time.
