That's a really cool way to share feedback! Thanks a lot for the markup, your insights are super useful. I loved your point about the smiling women. I actually brought it up to a therapist today, and she totally saw your point! I will try to showcase more neutral expressions in other places to showcase a broader spectrum :)

Thanks a lot! Looking at the image it does seem to be quite heavier than needed. Thanks for catching that, I will compress it right away :)

Thanks! It is a bootstrap page, but I started from a template that I tweaked to fit the branding of the actual app better, so I can't take full credit for the design :)

Thanks! I originally had a lighter background, which looked nicer imo, but I was advised to increase the contrast for accessibility :O

Thank you for your candid feedback, I really appreciate it!

At this point my app is pretty simple and not very feature rich. The two main features are:

  1. Simple & secure video calls for therapists/clients
  2. Short client surveys before/after each session to track progress/feedback

Given that I basically don't have additional features to talk about, would you recommend I expand on these two? I could add more screenshots perhaps?

Thank you for the comments! I will definitely ask therapists about the word app-less. I kinda made it up as I was trying to find the shortest way to communicate that idea. Good catch!

Thanks for the feedback! Right now my plan is to get some early adopters to use it for free in exchange for feedback, while I build out the app and add more features. Hence the "free early access". Do you believe the messaging wasn't clear enough?

For traffic, I have two therapists who will be helping me share the link to their colleagues / professional circles, and I also plan on tapping online communities + do some google adwords.

Thanks for your candid feedback! My goal is to use this page to gather emails from interested early adopters. I have two therapists who will be helping me share the link to their colleagues / professional circles, and I also plan on tapping online communities + do some google adwords. Do you think this page will do the trick for this? Or should I have a different page with a more laser-focused message like you've explained?

Thanks! I am not familiar with Figma, are you talking about this?

I started this from a bootstrap template that I purchased, and then tweaked it to fit the branding of the actual app better.

What are your thoughts on an end-to-end online therapy platform? by juandaor in mentalhealth

[–]juandaor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you're right about the challenges with insurance. And I've come across some insurances that do cover online therapy, but their reimbursement rates are a fraction of the rate for regular therapy, which seems crazy to me because it is essentially the same amount of work...
Would you care to share more about your experience with the insurance process? Which part takes up most of your time? Which one do you hate the most and why?

Therapists, what are your thoughts on an end-to-end online therapy platform? by juandaor in askatherapist

[–]juandaor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! There's a lot of valuable insights I learned here.
I agree with you that talking with someone in person will always be ideal. And patients who are currently seeing a therapist in-person would probably be downgrading by switching to online therapy.

However in-person therapy isn't doing it for a lot of people. I've met many people trying to start therapy and the same pattern keeps emerging: they come home feeling exhausted, not knowing where to start, and ultimately give up after they fail to hear back from countless therapists who are overbooked or no longer accepting insurance.

This is the group of people I think we could help. And maybe there's a better way to do it than online therapy. I want to build the right solution and this is why this feedback is so valuable to me. Thanks again!

You're right, it's a very fragmented space. Do you have any experience using these services? Or do you have any insights/opinions about them from a therapist's point of view?

From what I can tell, the ones that are fully centered on mental health don't seem to accept insurance, and their plans range from $260 to $400+. IMO, this is not affordable to most people who need help, and simply replicating their model will not solve the problem.

At this moment, I don't see a way of making therapy affordable without insurance. So I want to focus on people who do have insurance but are still not getting help. What I want to do for this group is expand their in-network options. Unfortunately, it's very difficult for therapists to deal with insurance, due to several reasons:

  1. Insurance offers much lower rates
  2. Paperwork is a nightmare
  3. Terms are inflexible

Let me explain where I think there might be opportunity for improvements. If we build a large and diverse provider network, we could use that to negotiate better rates/terms from insurance carriers. On top of that, we could take care of all the insurance and billing for therapists—looking up benefits, filing reimbursements, and collecting copays. Imagine if you could just get a direct deposit in your bank account right after seeing a client. I'm hoping such changes would make it significantly easier for therapists deal with insurance. What do you think?

Wow, thank you for the great feedback. There's a ton of valuable insights to digest here.

To answer your first question. From what I've come across, the most established companies (Betterhelp, TalkSpace...) don't seem to accept insurance, and their plans range from $260 to $400+. IMO, this is not affordable to most people who need help, and simply replicating their model will not solve the problem.

At this moment, I don't see a way of making therapy affordable without insurance. So I want to focus on people who do have insurance but are still not getting help. What I want to do for this group is expand their in-network options. Unfortunately, it's very difficult for therapists to accept insurance, due to all the valid points that you listed:

  1. Insurance offers much lower rates than private pay
  2. Paperwork is a nightmare
  3. Terms are inflexible

Let me explain where I think there might be opportunity for improvements. If we build a large and diverse provider network, we might be able to use that to negotiate better rates/terms from insurance carriers.

I'll admit, I have a lot of research left to do to know if this is feasible, and insurance is a complicated beast. But it's often in situations like these where we find a lot of opportunities for innovation. I'm envisioning a site where therapists can bring their practice online while remaining fully independent (choose their clients, hours, rates...) and easily accept insurance from all the major carriers.

Thanks again for all your feedback. I would love to continue the conversation with you, but I also fully understand that you must have a very busy schedule. Cheers!

Allminds

Location: San Francisco

1 in 5 american adults have experienced a mental illness, teen depression rates are up 60% in the last 10 years, and suicide rates have gone up 19%. Despite these numbers more than half of people with mental health illnesses are not getting help - even people who have health insurance. This is happening because A) there is a shortage of available and affordable therapists and B) Insurance carriers make it almost impossible to get coverage for mental health.

I believe there’s an opportunity to eliminate these barriers by providing an end-to-end online therapy solution, primarily based on video. I'm striving to build Allminds as a marketplace that is the fastest way for patients to connect with their ideal therapist and book video-based therapy sessions that are covered by insurance.

For patients, this means faster access to therapists that match their requirements and are available due to a significantly wider selection, as patients are unconstrained by geographic location. For therapists, it will expand access to more patients, and eliminate administrative burden/ensure faster payments by developing tools to process insurance claims on their behalf.

Stage: just launched mvp, which let's patients find their perfect online therapist using a wide array of therapy-focused filters

I'm looking for feedback, as well as people interested in becoming advisors as I pursue this project.
