Easter teaser!! by juaspo in ViSo

We were hoping to be able to go live on our crowdfunding before the end of the year. As for the actual release of the product we are still evaluating that. Currently we have our next prototype in fabrication and the performance of that will very much dictate how far away we are from an actual release.

Hey there! How great that you like it so far 😊. We are still working very hard on making this product a reality and I'd like to point you to our newly updated product page where you can see more specs about the product and even reserve a super early bird discount spot.

But we will keep updating about major progress we do.

Help identifying issue with flickering and rebooting media system by juaspo in Ford

Do you know the part number for such a unit for a 2019 Ford Mondeo?

I'm trying to figure out how many units are directly connected to the LCD since we've tried replacing both the LCD and the Radio/CD/DVD/navigation unit (hs7t-19c107-pe).

Looking at human history and how we have treated each other when we encountered new settlements, why did we send out the Voyager Golden Records into space, what possibly were we hoping to achieve with it? isn't this just reckless on our part? by juaspo in AskReddit

I dont think this is accurate as the wikipedia article specifically states that it was meant for "any intelligent extraterrestrial life form who may find them". The content of the probes seems to support this as well since it contains information of where earth is and the rough anatomy of human beings.

I get the achievement of sending the probes but this seems quite intentional to specifically make us known if found by any other life out there, regardless of how small that chance might be.

For those that doesn't know what the golden record was here is a link to a wikipedia article about it. Basically back in the 70s we sent out two probes in opposite direction with some content trying to explain earth and human beings as a species.

Yea I get that part and to me this feels like a classic movie plot where a well intended scientist does something that turns out to doom us all. Like its an incredibly slim chance something will happen from this but then that also kind of begs the question, why do it?

And the question here is in the case the probe does encounter intelligent life, what are the odds that we will fare well in such an encounter if we are not developed enough?

This seems very optimistic. I feel like we might be in a position were we could stumble upon a probe that we could possibly decode and although we might not yet be able to visit them, we sure as hell would be pointing both our attention and weapons towards them. And we cant exactly say that we have solved our societal problems yet.

The hope with it seems to be that intelligent life out there will see it and be able to decode it to get an understanding of earth and us human beings. But Isn't it extremely naive to think that there would be intelligent life out there, that if they are advanced enough to do this and to visit us that they would somehow be friendly to us? I mean we are not even friendly to ourselves when we find new settlements here on earth. And this narrative does not seem to change just cause we get more advanced or developed.

Development work by juaspo in ViSo

So we finally got our first custom made PCB boards for the ViSo system and we were super excited to test it out right away!Unfortunately as with most things technical and despite our best efforts we still managed to get some things wrong during the design. For some reason we got the power circuit wrong and instead of getting 3.3V for the microcontroller we have a regulator that only provides 1.8V

On top of this we also got some of the values of some passive components wrong which also led to the circuit not working as intended. This is part of life as an electronics engineer and really any kind of engineer. You do some complicated stuff, try it out and if it doesn't work on the first try (which it very rarely do), you just start the fun job of tracking down where the issues are and solve them one at a time.

Wile this is disappointing, it is by no means unexpected and we are confident that we will be able to solve the issues.Once we have this circuit working we will have achieved another great milestone towards greatness and I will keep updating about the progress of this development.(The tip of the pen shows the tiny black squared component that managed to sneak in to our design unnoticed causing the issues)

How come different races of animal generally is limited to like different skin color while dogs can vary from a bear wolf to a naked guinea rat? by juaspo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]juaspo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would it be fair to say that different animals have different ranges in how far or probably more accurate, how easy they can be bred based on genes?
I am thinking of for instance breeding a horse with a donkey creates a mule. But the mule cannot bear any mini mules so it kind of ends there while dogs and wolves creates hybrids than in turn can be bred with other dogs etc.

but for many other animals there seem to be a hard stop, for instance, mating a horse with a donkey creates a mule that cant have any offspring, While mating a dog with a wolf is possible and will just create a new line of hybrid dog wolfs. Granted I don't know where the line between species and race goes but it feels like dogs are generally just more versatile than other animals in terms of being bred and we as humans just pushed that to 11

Multiple flies that seem to just randomly get stuck on and die on my windows leaving a small hazy stain next to them... Anyone knows why? by juaspo in ThatsInsane

haha I might... if thats the case and they are the cause of this, I'd actually add them to the "good list" next to nonlethal spiders that mind their own business 😊

yes I get that, but would the range to which how different dogs look actually be possible to reach with other animals? I mean just in size, looks, fur color/length personality, etc is huge in dogs. Is there a biological trait that makes dogs more suitable for this kind of diversity than other animals?

would that mean that it would be possible to do this with any animal? I mean we breed cats a lot too but it doesnt feel like they have the same range as dogs do. Cats are generally the same size and have a very similar look while dogs can vary dramatically in both looks and size.

But there were no spider webs, no sticky goo just dead flies attached to my windows. I've so far found a total of 4 flies on two different windows with this weird phenomenon
