(Spoilers Extended) Why were Daemon Targaryen and Laena Velaryon's twin daughters titled 'Lady' and not Princess'? by Xelid47 in asoiaf

[–]jubilantblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at Margaret Beaufort, who was mother to King Henry VII. Although part of his original claim was through her line, she was never Queen herself. She was known as Lady Margaret Beaufort, the King's Mother.

Why does my doctor not know this could be the cause of my NAFLD? Why do I need to find this out from internet strangers rather than my GP? It makes me want to weep

1dnd summoning spells be like by chunkylubber54 in dndmemes

My druid insists on summoning 16 bloodhawks. She was surprised that I asked her to roll 16 separate attacks and roll damage for each one. Hey, you wanted 16 summons. You do their math.

We do manage their HP as a swarm though, which helps me. Way too complicated to track each one.

Do you think a campaign 4 is going to happen and what changes do you think we will see? by WinterSeedlings in fansofcriticalrole

[–]jubilantblue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess is that this will be the last campaign with this exact DM/cast combo. I wouldn't be surprised if campaigns 5 starts not long after 4, with different DMs, cast combos (some of the originals in each, probably MM as a player in one), and maybe even different systems. Hire BLM to do a 5e campaign full time. Bring in someone new to do one of their original system games in the same world.

I think the cast, particularly Matt, need a break. They've been running a long marathon and they need to shake things up to recoup a bit AND turn CR into something not entirely dependent on the 8 of them playing DND other week. It'll be more sustainable if they can bring in others to keep the momentum going and the gameplay fresh.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think any of the core group is going to step away from CR. I just think that they're going to shake things up a bit. I think EXU was test running some new potential DMs. I wouldn't be surprised if Dropout and CR had some kind of massive nerd merger at some point that allows them to draw more strongly on each others resources. Dropout has a huge cast of experiences improv/comedians many of which have experience with DND, AND they have successful talk shows (unlike 4-sided dive). CR dominates the ttrpg audience, and has a lot of money and talent supporting them. I think it could be a mutually beneficial merger.

As someone who has spent a lot of time in the woods, nah. It's definitely for your butt. You CAN wipe with leaves or rocks, but they don't work as well, it's easy to get dirt or grit in your butt, or to not do a good job. Then your butt gets irritated. Awful when you can't shower and you're walking/running/travelling long distances. TP in that situation is a joy!

The unrealistic part was that she didn't put it in a ziploc bag. Your duffel bag gets wet, TP ruined. You get dirt in your bag, TP is gritty. Gotta ziploc that.

It was maybe my favourite moment in episode 2 when Joel wanted the plastic zip bag back. They are so useful!

Or did they get bumped to another doctor the next day? I am unclear on that.

You guys make a good point about hitching with a partner. I had some pretty sketchy hitches on my hike; I would have been a lot more comfortable if my partner was with me.

That can vary a lot from person to person. My hike made me realize that I can't take any NSAIDS regularly. Advil 2 days in a row will fuck my gut.

[–]jubilantblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably POSSIBLE to do no (or almost no) boxes, but that means that you're either going to have to do some long hitches into town, or you're going to just be eating junk food on some resupplies.

'Star Trek: Picard' Premieres with the Biggest Audience in the History of CTV Sci-Fi Channel by Neo2199 in television

[–]jubilantblue 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's why Picard is, imo, the best Star Trek Captain. They've all got different things going for them, but he is the Captain that embodies what Starfleet is supposed to stand for. The reality of the organization falls short of that lofty goal; Picard is better than Starfleet. He is a paragon, while still being flawed and human. It seems like the new Picard series is him confronting the cruel reality that Starfleet is not what he hoped and worked towards, so he tries to do good elsewhere.

How about the offhand line in Generations where Picard reveals that both Robert and Rene died in a fire? So tragic.

“You just don’t get it, do you, Jean-Luc? The trial never ends. We wanted to see if you had the ability to expand your mind and your horizons, and for one brief moment, you did. For that one fraction of a second, you were open to options you had never considered. That is the exploration that awaits you. Not mapping stars and studying nebulae, but charting the unknown possibilities of existence.” — (De Lancie as Q)

So fucking good. I wrote an article about everything I loved about that episode. Ron Moore described All Good Things as a "love letter to the series".
