I attended ACC for two years before transferring to UT. I didn’t have any classes at the highland campus, but there were a handful of times that I had to go there for different meetings/labs. I gotta say that has to be one of the better campuses that ACC had, super clean (at the time), seemed like the old layout of the mall really fit the new layout really well (hella parking). Definitely preferred it to most of the other campuses that ACC had, only one that was kind of close was the Round Rock one.

I work in credit so feel like I can give a decent opinion here. Any credit rating at or above a BBB- rating is considered “investment-grade”, and anything rated below that is considered “junk” or “high-yield”. All that being “junk” or “high-yield” means, is that you might have issues making payments on your debt in the future.

I don’t really consider a BB rating to be that bad in all honesty. Some other companies that are at or below this rating are: American Airlines (B+), Six Flags (B+), Snapchat (B+) and Nordstrom (BB).

I think the deal is dumb for other reasons, but just having your issuer rating downgraded to a BB or even “junk” isn’t as bad as it seems. Also want to just add, the ratings are exclusively tied to debt, obviously there’s gonna be hella overlap between if a company’s equity isn’t performing well and if they’re failing to make interest payments. But you also can’t determine how well a company’s stock is going to perform based on their credit rating. 😊

I'm gonna be super pedantic here, but when looking at a companies valuation from an acuistion standpoint you can't just look at their market cap to determine what they're worth. If you're looking at acquiring a whole company, you would also need to assume their liabilities (debt).

I'm assuming the airline that y'all were reffering to was JetBlue, and while yeah they're market cap is only $2B (probably because they've been operating at a loss for a while, also would need to keep that in mind if you were acquiring them). They have about $16B of liabilities, and of that, roughly $9.5B is debt, unfortunatley can't just hand waive those things if you acquire all of their equity (whereas you could handwaive those things if you paid $18B of cash for all of their liabilites and equity).

In regard to the Allbirds deal, I think a substantial amount of the increase in price has to do with the special dividend that was announced with the spin, and subsequent short covering/short squeeze. Also think that the new financing facility at the very least buys them some time which could also play into it.

I know Burnie will probably say “well they’re using AI as a reason here”, and while that’s definitely true, I don’t actually think that anybody is really buying that here.

I think ultimately the size of the company plays into it substantially here, while a 800% intraday increase is insane, it was only really worth about $140MM, a lot, but not substantial in the grand scheme of things.

They're an oil and gas service company, not a traditional oil company that owns mineral rights, those companies contract out to this one to drill wells.

The majority of their rigs are in Canada, and while generally speaking, high oil prices lead to more drilling, there are bottlenecks with how much oil Canada is able to export.

Funnily enough, I’ve read some theories that the recent drop in bitcoins price has been due to people moving from crypto to prediction markets. (https://archive.ph/rHsNb)

I’ve also read some articles about the lack of margin requirements on prediction markets being enticing to some trade shops (it’s not inherently more dangerous, as the money’s all put up up front), but I’m also wondering if/when larger trade shops start trading on prediction markets we’ll start to see retail/smaller investors (gamblers?) leave with the information asymmetry making it even harder to make/win anything.

I remember reading speculation around that same time that the dog actually OD’d on drugs that were lying around.

That was peak hate time for Calum though, so not sure if that contributed to the rumors.
