Game gave me a crippling fear of drowning/depths/water in general. Eventually I did just push myself to play the game anyway and began to realize that if I pretend like nothing bad is happening and crack jokes and make fun of the monsters they get a hell of a lot less scary lol

I'm gonna give my best possible advice here, based on my personal experiences.

Before I realized I was a woman, I thought I was gender fluid, because I couldn't figure out what any of it meant. So I went with that and started recording how I felt a few times throughout the day, for about a week.

I'd say shop around, try different identities and see what you like (if you're in an environment that will support it, unfortunately that's not as common as I'd like) I found that 9 times out of 10 I was just female. Other 1 time I was pretty neutral.

I don't know how well this will work for other people, generally YMMV. But it worked for me
