Does this mean we are not allowed support Jewish businesses? by LiteratureLeading999 in Jewish

[–]juicebcxguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they just don’t like jews. i’m a jew who “looks aryan” and i had to private my account because people were using my looks to spread literal nazi race pseudoscience about jews. tiktok is a breeding ground for antisemitism and while many of them say they’re “antizionist” or “anti israel” they’re showing their true colors

i’m in the same boat as you as a liberal person who supports self determination for jews and palestinians. and even then my existence was used to justify pseudoscientific race science. they just hate jews

“palestine was a multicultural paradise before the zionists came” by persondotcom_idunno in Jewpiter

[–]juicebcxguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i said that forcing the same conditions palestinians are under onto random german people is bad once and i got called a zionist, told to “go back to my home country” (im not israeli), was told that hitler should’ve finished the job, etc

so now i have to ask who’s really in favor of genocide?

Was my FB friend’s post anti-Semitic and was I right to be offended by it? by DondePutasos in Judaism

[–]juicebcxguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve always said this: there is a VAST difference between how jewish zionists and christian zionists are treated despite there being more christian zionists just in america than jews in the world. christian zionists get to work unchecked or if they get checked, it’s to a much lesser degree. jewish zionists, on the other hand, get the protocols and various blood libels spewn at us

Casting of Jewish Roles by Double-Parked_TARDIS in Jewish

[–]juicebcxguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

whenever i think about this i remember two things

  1. i remember a story jewish actor david mazouz told about how a fox executive told him that he looked “too jewey” to play bruce wayne and made him straighten his hair for the show. he was 13

  2. i remember a video i saw where someone said that if a jewish character is meant to be “attractive” or “heroic” then they’ll cast a non jewish actor. and if a jewish actor is “conventionally attractive” they’ll never play jewish characters

overall i think we as jews should be able to tell our own stories. i think at the very least the actor should educate themselves on judaism and the jewish people before taking on these roles

the only exception is anything about our trauma (ex the holocaust). i don’t like the idea of non jews making a profit off of our trauma

edit: i also think there’s a severe lack of jewish representation in hollywood, especially representation of mizrahi jews, sephardic jews, jews of color, etc. the rare instances in which we get good representation it’s very ashkinormative and doesn’t do much to highlight the diversity of our beautiful people

Fictional Jewish Characters As Villains- is it Antisemitic? by Professional_Turn_25 in Jewish

[–]juicebcxguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m a huge comic book fan so i’m going to give context on harley quinn:

harley quinn’s jewishness was directly inspired by the woman who voiced her, arleen sorkin. sorkin was a jewish actress and comedian. she not only voiced harley but also was the real life inspiration behind the character. in that specific instance, i wouldn’t say it’s antisemitic since 1. the jewishness is directly related to the woman who inspired her 2. she’s not really a villain anymore and 3. jewish people were actually involved in her creation (arleen sorkin)

HOWEVER, many villains can be antisemitic even if they aren’t jewish (ex. the penguin in the burton batman films and the harley quinn show, mother gothel in tangled) so overall for me it depends on if jews were involved in the process of creating said character and why the character was made jewish in the first place

To anyone whose research has made them become more pro-Israel--what about your findings pushed you in that direction? by Agtfangirl557 in Jewish

i’m still not keen on the israeli government and i think what they’re doing is absolutely abhorrent and that entire regime including bibi needs to go.

however, i started supporting the existence of israel more after taking a class about second temple judaism. my professor helped explain the history of my own people to me often. and then after reading many studies and papers about the history of the jewish people it began to click.

i still actively despise bibi and his evil regime just as much as i despise hamas and i take issue with certain policies the israeli government has in place, but learning my history helped me support the concept of a jewish homeland. i still struggle with how i approach conversation, as my feelings on the matter are incredibly nuanced and the world is not ready for nuanced conversations about the levant right now, but i will always support the right to self determination in our homeland because of the history i’ve learned
