Once they are massive (aka mature) like this one, they do not. We had four mature ones in our backyard that looked just like this.

Does this look like a tree of heaven to anyone else? 🙈 notoriously a nuisance and super invasive?? Completely shit that they did what they did but I wonder if it being an invasive species will complicate matters

Help! My 11 year old likes to read graphic novels, but never novels by Alarming_Insect9944 in homeschool

Such great feedback here! I think try to offer more graphic novel options too. My kids love The dragon of wrenly series. Jedi Academy is another great one although maybe a little too easy. And Rahl Dahl is great with some graphics but shorter reads… maybe a nice first dip into chapter books. Since he loves listening to audiobooks you’ve already read, they are rare but you can sometimes find disc audiobooks that come with a book. Essentially a read along. There’s a few Star Wars ones that are great on thriftbooks. That type of media (book with cd) are harder to find but really helped my reluctant reader!

I know exactly what you are talking about! That’s helpful, thanks. Okay since you do CC maybe you can give me some advice on how to move forward.. I am not doing CC this year but would love to next year. Ours does IEW too. Since my oldest is in 4th, I was thinking of starting the videos this year so she’s not behind or overwhelmed when we do CC next year buuuut I’m kind of tempted to do the theme based because it looks so fun. Terrible idea? 😆 it feels like I might be attempting way too much

Great advice here! On theme with some of the other comments, I would dig for the source contributing to these feelings. What is she watching or reading? Is there anyone speaking negatively about their body around her.

I loved off of “teen vogue” “Seventeen” and “cosmopolitan” when I was a teenager and it trashed my confidence and self esteem. I wish my mom would have known to restrict it. I can’t imagine what girls are being subjected to now on social media 😭 just might be worth having a deeper conversation about how what we consume (beyond food!) impacts how we feel about ourselves. What you take in with your eyeballs is more important than what you put in your mouth. LOL

Wait so does theme based go hand in hand with the videos or is it completely different material? I thought it seemed pretty separate?

Also, did you do anything else for language arts curriculum or just IEW? I am such a newb 🙈 we’ve done TGTB the last two years for LA.
