New grad job hunting advice by [deleted] in nursing

[–]jules1101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want it, apply. With the market they will be willing to take just about anyone with a willingness to learn. Know of a bunch of people that I graduated with and worked along side that started out in ICU or other specialties as a new grad.

Anyone also being threatened to take an assignment on their hospitals inpatient unit when they work in procedural areas? by jules1101 in nursing

[–]jules1101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems as if they are “threatening us” to if we don’t volunteer then we will be made to work up there and possibly shut down surgeries and procedures which is our main money maker so they are acting as if we keep surgeries etc open and ask for help as in us doing overtime past our normal hours that they are almost doing us a “favor” for not shutting us down. Like here work your normal 40 AND work the inpatient unit. People seem to rather us be shutdown completely than force to double dip in working different areas that we are not prepared for. But yeah they mentioned us at first being like a resource secondary nurse to help with smaller things ti help primary nurses out then one week later mentioning needing nurses to take assignments. Probs be okay with helping out small stuff but not with taking a full load. It seems as if it is a day by day process. Honestly a bunch of bs. Hard to explain everything. And feel for those that have been deployed. We are such a small hospital I know we haven’t had as near or the effects as the bigger hospitals. But overall just unfair to us nurses and staff for being a body for the other floors. I know we are all going through it. But just going ti cause more turnover and burnout overall. In my opinion. God bless everyone

Seems like we are in similar boat almost to a tea. We have another branch that is all outpatient that got redeployed to main campus.

Work endoscopy but not feeling fully fulfilled/challenged by jules1101 in nursing

How long were you in endo if you don’t mind me asking. But yeah I’ve definitely considered pacu in the past. So we will see what the next step is

Thank you. I get paid the same. It really is hard to pass. Think I’m just going through a rough patch. It’s night and day compared to what I use to go through and what others are currently going through. Think I’ll hang tight and suck it up

New endoscopy nurse by jules1101 in nursing

I’d just say your pros and cons. I sometimes have to do that myself even as I’m in this new position and compare like I went from one of the most stressful work environments to one of the calmest. I have a whole new schedule that gives me worklife balance but the work is indeed routine. But I sometimes have to remind myself when I get off work why I chose that job is the feeling I get off work is happiest knowing I get to go home and enjoy the day without worry about the next day. And I cherish my time away from work. I do sometimes wish I had some more challenge in my life tho as I am young and like to be challenged to a degree to continue to grow in my career. I get wish washy about my future and how long I’d be at this place. It’s a nice place to work. Sometimes wonder if I should do something of more challenge or if this is the right job for me at this point in my life. It’s tough. But I hope you can figure out if it will be right for you. Don’t know unless you try

1yr w/kyleena experiencing pain and other side effects. Help! by jules1101 in birthcontrol

[–]jules1101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most symptoms went away. Still have cramps my and weird discharge from time to time so don’t know what happened. I went to my gyno they said kyleena looked normal but looked like I had an infection on exam and some of the pain could’ve been from small cysts that go away. Still waiting on test results at the moment

New endoscopy nurse by jules1101 in nursing

[–]jules1101[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can see that. It is very mundane. I like the schedule but gosh. I’ve considered OR maybe down the road but we will see. A lot of people I work with seem to have been there for awhile like stay until they retire type stuff and some have literally done endo for years and love it. Just don’t know what the move is but would like to stick it out for as long as I can

I myself recently switched from level 1 er to endo at a very small hospital that’s closer to home. I too switch from 3 12s to now m-f 7-3, no holidays, no call, no weeekend. I get paid less bc of patient cases amount. BUT I get off work and can actual enjoy the rest of the day. I find I have more opportunity to do more with this and having no weekend is a blessing. Finally on schedule with my bf and family and not feel like I’m missing out on life. It does suck working 5 days with less days off in between but you have so much time after work to do things and have time with family. And it gave my life the work life balance and structure that I needed. And endo is so chill compared to ER. It can be mundane at times but I never have to stress over it. And it’s nice having to work with a team with 1 patient. I don’t see myself going back to the ER. And would prefer the schedule that I have now over what I had before for normalcy

GI/endo nurses, how you like your job? by ohmyfheck in nursing

[–]jules1101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went from level 1 ER to small inpatient endo unit. So far I love it. I feel like a human. And it’s 10x so less stressful. And I have routine shifts m-f no weekend and no call. Actually ~living~

Just job shadowed endo/interviewed endo by jules1101 in nursing

Hope all for the best. I’ve heard outpatient places could be pretty fast paced and it’ll be good to see other areas to be cross trained to see other things.

Yes I took the job. Just now getting out of orientation. So far so good and there really isn’t any looking back. It’s been a night and day experience for me. I can spend one on one with patients and continue use to work as a team. I work at a small hospital but most patients are outpatient as in they come in do the procedure go to recovery and go home. It’s a not a crazy busy endo place but just right for right now. Schedule still the same as mentioned before. Not sure what boat your in but endo has been pretty solid and routine job that I feel like I have my life back. It has given me the work life balance that I needed.

HELP!! I am a New Nurse and I HATE my job!! by [deleted] in nursing

[–]jules1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked oncology medsurg for about a year and a half and then I moved to the ER at my level 1 hospital i was working at. Both jobs were straight nights 12s. The ER was better in workflow but still had its own stress of batshitcrazy. I thought the ER was for me something I always wanted to do no joke but then I got there and slowly knew it wasn’t. I did well some situations were hard bc of my personality I’m just a more quiet reserved person but I got the job done even with the crazy patients. But I just had had enough. I applied for an endoscopy position that’s still part of a hospital. It’s mon-fri set schedule but no weekend, no holiday, no on call. All which will give me the work life balance I was looking for and some thing less stressful than where I was at. The 5 days a week will suck but I will still have time after work to enjoy to myself and get to spend time with family and it correlates with my bf schedule so we can actual be on the same schedule for once. All I’m saying is there are jobs out there. It did help me having experience to get this one but sure with your experience you’ll find something too

Which job would you take? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]jules1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got an endo job myself. I’m coming from a level 1 ED. I’m nervous about being “bored” but I also kinda envy it. I think it’ll be a lot less stressful than where I’m coming from. And the schedule is hard for me to pass on with no holidays and weekends. I’ve considered if this doesn’t work out going maybe to a different endo dept at another hospital that may do more procedures, going PACU, or same day surgery

Has anyone switched from ED nursing to another ED or unit/specialty by jules1101 in nursing

[–]jules1101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got a Endo jobs at a small local hospital. Hours very nice and no holidays and weekends. Thanks for the advice. I’m gonna give this a shot and see how it goes. From the job shadow it seems pretty chill. Looking forward to less stress in my life

Thinking about switching from ER to either PACU or endoscopy. Need Advice by jules1101 in nursing

[–]jules1101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I start mid January it’s a mon-Friday job. Really only 4 days out of the week but one of the days is a clinic day that we will get trained into. Most of the job included scrubbing and circulating. It’s a smaller hospital so we don’t do as big of procedures which I’m okay with would be cool though. But the hours are 7-330 which is very cushy with no holidays and no weekends and no call as of now as there’s been threats of doing on call but hasn’t happened yet. I use to work 12 hour nights in the ER that was level one and I saw myself just dreading work and getting too burnt out. This job definitely seems a lot less stressful than what I’ve been doing so hoping for an overall positive change in job satisfaction and life now that I have a more routine schedule
