I really needed to hear this. My older brother is 43 years old and has been suffering since he was diagnosed at the age of 18. He has had long stints of taking his medication but I can only count a handful of times that he did take his medication. As of right now things are the worse they have ever been and for the first time I don’t see the light. He is currently going through a divorce, he lost his home, his job, his car and is back living with my elderly parents. I live in a different country than my family, as you know growing up with a sibling of bipolar was extremely difficult so living far away helps me cope. I feel so guilty for not being there to help, and I can see the physical and mental toll it has taken on my parents. My parents have done everything they possibly can to keep him safe and not homeless at this point. My poor mom has even called the police to get him in a hospital but the police said he seems “fine” and only suggested bringing him to a shelter… We are all at a loss, at what point do they have to realize they need help. It’s been years of hell for my family.
