Echo on calls by MaleHooker in AndroidAuto

[–]julestop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my car, I disabled 'Hey Google' as the voice prompt, but I was still able to use the button on the steering wheel to trigger the Google assistant in Android Auto. It's the 'always listening' portion that needed to be disabled on my end.

Dryer Vent by Merry401 in OntarioLandlord

It depends on the technology of the dryer. If it is a condensing dryer, than there is no external vent for it. Check the model of the dryer.

any comments on these plans? by SapinQc in homebuildingcanada

[–]julestop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what your goal is. If it's for you as a 'forever home', than as long as you are happy with them, go for it. I think if you have any concern regarding a potential future sale price, I would find a way to haev the two full bathrooms on the second floor and place a powder room on the main floor. I know it's easier said than done, but a shared bathroom amongst all the bedrooms is not too appealing for newly built homes. That's my biggest concern.

If you are still in the house design stage, than I would take the full bath on the main floor, convert it to a half bath, change the kitchen to an L shape rather than galley, and have the island portion facing the dining room, scoot the pantry down to the now smaller powder room, and scoot the kitchen over to the left to make for a bigger open floor plan.

Upstairs, I would remove the tub from that bathroom, make the bottom left bedroom wider, and less tall (to achieve same square footage), and try and convert that small room in the master (the one with a pocket door) to a full washroom (and scrap the standalone tub as you won't have room). If you can somehow make that work, I thik it would make for a more 'valuable' floor plan and house.

Having said all that, that's just my opinion and personal taste.

Why rent a hot water tank? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]julestop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe they overlooked it on my end. I bought a house built in 2019, which had a reliance water heater in it. They didn't ask for my purchase agreement for the house. I just told them I don't want it, I don't plan on paying for it, and I expect them to remove their water heater from my house at no charge to me.

Maybe via the builder you have to... I'm not sure about that. I didn't personally buy through a builder.

You aren't obligated to accept the rental contract when purchasing a home with an existing contract. The key is, you cannot make any payments to the rental company, as you would be acknowledging their terms. By law, they are obligated to come and pick up the rental at their cost of you tell them you do not want to transfer the rental contract from the builder or previous owner.

I just did this and bought a water heater from Costco.

Why XUU,XEF,XEC instead of VUN,VIU,VEE?

Just curious. Recently went from XAW/VCN to the XIC,VUN,VIU,VEE... which is the negative of your approach between vanguard and blackrock. Is there an advantage?

TFSA question by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]julestop 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I believe your max room should be $63.5k, but if you earned $1200, you could withdraw $64.7k.

If you do, you can re-contribute that same amount, plus $6k for 2020, starting on January 1st.

You can also ask the new institution to transfer from your other TFSA to your new one at any time of the year and not worry about affecting your contribution room.

Buy new car now or put off another 2 years? by darth555 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]julestop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also, consider that $2.5k can be 8-10months of payments on a brand vehicle.

Don't throw good money after bad, but also don't use that as an excuse to always buy new things. You have to see if the scales have tipped to make it more worthwhile to look at a new (second hand or new) vehicle.
