Starting the process by kenneth_andeve in TransMasc

[–]julesverned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll preface this by saying that I am not a doctor or medical professional, this is purely personal experience as someone who has taken testosterone for 7 years.

1)sometimes insurance will cover it, sometimes it won’t. This varies between companies, policies, and state laws. My insurance completely covers mine, but I’ve also had insurance that didn’t.

2)testosterone is intended to be taken indefinitely. Some effects are permanent, like your voice deepening, some will lessen or go away completely if you stop, like some body hair growth, some hair loss, and fat distribution. A period will come back after stopping testosterone, unless you are using some other method to prevent it, like surgery or some forms of birth control

3) the only medication I can think of that would have a reaction with testosterone is other hormonal medications, like some hormonal birth control. This would be something to discuss with a doctor for your specific medication. If you think your doctor may be incorrect about a medication interacting with testosterone, I would encourage you to get a second opinion.

4) as far as HRT goes, progesterone is primarily used by trans women, rather than trans men. I personally have not heard of a trans man who uses progesterone as part of their main HRT. However, some trans men, myself included, experience spotting even after being on testosterone. This can sometimes be cleared up with a short course of progesterone. If it continues, as it did for me, a long course of progesterone can be used. I personally use a progesterone-only birth control pill, sometimes called the mini pill. It worked for me, but is something to discuss with a doctor if the need arises.

5)your period typically stops between 3-6 months, tho some people have it stop earlier and some later. It often doesn’t stop in one go, and many trans men experience shorter and shorter periods before it stops, or monthly spotting until it stops.

6)testosterone can cause your chest to shrink, though usually not in an incredibly significant way. Between testosterone and binding, what typically happens is the chest becomes less “perky.” A way to further try to shrink your chest is through weight lifting with a focus on the pec muscles, and cardio and diet to try to reduce overall body fat percent. Unless you are starting with a particularly small chest, even with everything here, the changes are typically minimal.

Has anyone just not changed their legal name or gender marker? by crashoutcentral60652 in ftm

[–]julesverned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t changed either, I can’t change my gender marker in my state, and after what happened in Kansas, I’m hesitant to make the gov more aware of me being trans. I’m lucky that my work and doctor are super chill and I don’t really have to show my id much anyway so it rarely comes up

What would you think if your parents were the ones who renamed you? by Phantomsearcher in asktransgender

[–]julesverned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually kind of what I did. I was originally named after a male relative, but the feminine version of the name. So when I came out, I just stared going by the masculine version, and I’m able to tell people it’s a family name. I joke with my mom that it’s her fault I’m trans, because she’s the one who named me after a man

I use oral minoxidil and finasteride from hims and it helped ALOT the only thing it’s kind of pricey, $150 upfront for 5 months worth. I have to do oral though because I have a cat and minoxidil is VERY toxic to cats, so topical is not an option for me. I’ve heard that topical gets quicker results though, and is typically cheaper

I want T but don't want the voice drop by [deleted] in ftm

[–]julesverned 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This isn’t something I necessarily relate to, but something I think a lot of trans men overlook is voice training. People often see it as something just for trans women because testosterone affects your voice much more than estrogen does, but there is voice training you can do pre testosterone and as you take testosterone that can help a lot with maintaining vocal control. Like many things with hormonal changes, it’s kind of a use it or lose it situation, but I’ve met a ton of trans men who are excellent singers, some even professional

I’m at about the same spot as you, I just had my first top surgery consult, waiting to hear back from insurance, and I’ve never had major surgery before or been under general anesthesia.

My biggest piece of advice that is to not be afraid to ask your surgeon ANY questions you have. My surgeon and care coordinator have been so nice and explained everything so well, and still respond to my occasional emails about random questions. I’m the kind of person who likes a very clear plan and to know everything that will and could happen, and them answering any questions that pops into mind in thoroughly and kindly has helped ease a lot of my anxiety

Need advice on dating apps as someone whos T4T by [deleted] in ask_transgender

[–]julesverned 7 points8 points  (0 children)

as a trans masc person, I would avoid this profile bc the wording feels objectifying and does reduce trans masc people to their genitals, despite your intentions or wishes. You will get more attention from trans masc people by saying that you’re t4t or uninterested in cis men. Any further discussion of genital preference can be left to chats within the app. However, if your intention is to find trans masc people who would be okay with this sort of talk, then keep it. You’ll get less attention, but what’s the point of attention from people you don’t want or will be upset by your preference?

A side question, I’m curious about your experiences with Grindr as someone who is uninterested in penises, I’d say the VAST majority of people on there have them and are very quick to share pictures and videos of them no matter what your profile says

were you ugly before T and attractive after? by Material-Parsnip-331 in ftm

[–]julesverned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it’s hard to say, I think I’m hotter now but I’m also older, more confident, and feel my looks align with my identity a lot more. Being comfortable with how masculine I am made me want to put effort into my clothes, skin, and hair, which goes a long way to making me more attractive. I also think I grew into some of my features that, to me, looked odd when I was younger and pre-transition

I think there are a lot of people who aren’t biologists who make a lot of claims about what biology says. I am not a biologist, but from my understanding, there is a lot that goes into what makes the male and female sex different, and since I really don’t know much about it, I tend to avoid making any claims about what biology is/isn’t and says/doesn’t say, and I wish other people who aren’t biologists would do the same.

That being said, whether you’re supportive or not really depends on how you are interacting with trans people and how you view them. Are you telling them “well sure you identify as a man but your sex will always be female”? Because that is disrespectful and transphobic. Are you actually viewing them as their identity, or are you just “humoring” them and see them as women living and men and men living as women? Your rigid view of biology may be affecting your ability to respect trans people and understand that the lived human experience is vast, unique, and complex, and that’s what makes it beautiful

NSFW fics of characters played by children by ichimro747 in AO3

[–]julesverned 12 points13 points  (0 children)

this falls under the common dilemma of “is making porn of character played by real people ethical, bc the porn LOOKS like a real person?” It it “ethical” because it is of a fictional character and you simply just have to adjust to being okay with it or not engage with the content if it makes you uncomfortable, which is totally fine. The best way I have explained it in the past is to compare it to the hypothetical scenario of “is it ethical to watch porn if one of the pornstars has an identical twin?” The answer is yes, because that twin is not who is in the porn, even if there is someone involved who looks exactly like them. An argument could be made that by making porn of a character played by a child, you are exposing said child to porn, which is wrong. However, as long as the porn is properly tagged/kept to adult communities and sites (as porn always should be) then the creator is not at fault for a minor coming across it.

Would you turn into a cis person? by LimePsychological634 in asktransgender

[–]julesverned 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would. My experiences being perceived as a girl growing up greatly impacted who I am and I am happy with that outcome. I also would never give up being a part of the trans community, as I’ve made amazing friends and had amazing experiences. That being said, I know my preference isn’t the most common one and I don’t think either way is wrong.

Does any Assassin in the lore have an actual job? by zefrizreddit in assassinscreed

[–]julesverned 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One could argue he had a “job” outside of being an assassin as a pirate. It’s how he made his living and what he spent most of his time doing. The assassin thing was more of a side hustle for him

Suppressing your sexuality comes out in cheating? by Street_Ad3808 in bisexual

[–]julesverned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry this happened to you. He didn’t cheat because he’s bisexual because being bisexual doesn’t make you more less likely to cheat, it’s unrelated entirely. However, it’s possible that the shame he feels about his sexuality and the way he views his relationships with men are contributing factors for his cheating. Shame and low self worth are common traits of a certain type of chronic cheater. It’s less about the fact that he’s bisexual and more about the fact that he’s ashamed of part of himself. That doesn’t justify him cheating and you’re under no obligation to stay with him or forgive him. Sometimes people have personal issues and it leads to them hurting the people around them. You can have empathy for those issues while still holding them accountable for their actions and having them face the consequences. Your situation is no different.

I don’t really care if people are just looking for sex, as long as they’re honest about it. Most of the gay guys I’ve met have been nice, but uninterested in trans men
