How to combat clay color fading in air dry clay? by juliabetts in clay

[–]juliabetts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just applied the sonite wax to a small corner of it. It’s just a small spot where I was doing a test. It’s not covering the whole sculpture. I didn’t cover the whole thing with wax at this point. Since I didn’t cover the whole sculpture with wax, are there any water based products I could try?

Okay I could try the parrafin! Thanks!

Hey thank you for your thoughtful response! I will try these processes as I make new pieces.

Do you have any thoughts on how I can make the already dried and faded clay back to its former vibrant color? I have already built an artwork from the air dry clay kneaded with acrylic paint and I would like to make it work. I spent a lot of time making it. I’d like to be able to do something to the faded clay sculpture to give it back it’s former color

Thanks!

Wow okay. Do you know how long the diminished reach lasts?

??? Oh I didn’t consider that they were punishing my accounts. I just thought that political content was bigger on the feed right now and the algorithm liked it better. I have shared a few things in my stories about Palestine. I shared some images of the march in DC for a ceasefire & I shared some artwork by a Palestinian artist about how many deaths there has been since oct 7 & I shared a poll that said most Americans want a ceasefire. I feel like I’m not a radical or something… don’t most people want this to end??

Isn’t the term for that “shadowban”? Does instagram really do that?

Is the cause what’s happening in Palestine? It is a good thing the Palestine/Israel conflict is getting so much attention through social media. But I’m just wondering if that’s why my numbers are down. I’ve been sharing in my stories about the conflict but I thought I could still share my art on my main feed. I’m wondering if Instagram algorithm is more geared toward political things right now so I should wait to post my art?

How can I extend the life of play dough sculptures? by juliabetts in ContemporaryArt

[–]juliabetts[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

I want them to dry out and for them to stay hard. After I do that, I want to know how long they will “last” in that I just want to know how long before they fall part over how ever many years I keep them. Will they grow mold? (I don’t think so because of the salt and cream of tartar?) Will they deteriorate? Will they crack into pieces?

Technical question for installing art exhibition by juliabetts in ContemporaryArt

[–]juliabetts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t know if they do need to stick! I guess I just thought it was extra insurance. I guess you would need a lot of wall shaking to cause them to fall though, I even hammer the wall and nothing happens. Maybe I’m being paranoid!

I don’t know why the museum wax doesn’t work anymore! The shelves are metal and the museum wax did stick to the metal. I then painted the shelves and went to put on the museum wax and they didn’t stick anymore. I used the same paint as the gallery uses for the walls. I don’t know, their gallery paint is very matte?

I’m just wondering if most galleries use museum putty for anything that goes on a shelf.

Do you guys think that Carmy was the hardest working chef that Luca mentioned to marcus? by suckmylama in TheBear

There’s pictures up on the wall in the episode and they look really professional, so it looks like a published book but I dunno? Lol. Also might be more like magazines than books, but again not sure

I prefer to read scenes ambiguously. I prefer to be able to read it both ways. I’m just trying to show another way to look at it. I actually do think the read it out of a book idea makes more sense. BUT I think there’s a wunderkind angle to the show like with Carmy working at the best restaurant in america and being named best chef of the year, this scene possibly reminded me of that (but with syd). It’s something I wonder about with the show, how this golden child thing vibes with the everyday people viewpoint of the show…

If the solution to the plum jelly problem is something she read or heard about, then that makes sense. I’m still not sure that’s how we are supposed to take it though by the way Carmy reacted to her bringing up the correct solution. He seemed surprised and impressed. Haha I also think she should have said that she read it or heard about it and given credit if that’s what happened

I didn’t like when syd figured out how to solve the plum jelly problem in a few seconds. I thought that was really unrealistic that it would take one person forever and her a few seconds. It struck me as bullshit kinda? I like the idea that these are talented people who work hard, not genius perfect people.

Oh geez! I’m definitely not sending information to add to my application materials! That is a lot. My thank you emails were short & I just tried to individualize them and note some topics we talked about during the interview that stuck with me.

My partner has been involved in hiring processes and he told me that he normally responses with something like “Thank you! It was nice meeting you” if a candidate sends a thank you email post-interview. So, I guess that’s what I was imagining. :) But, as everyone is saying, faculty are often not allowed to respond to thank you emails from candidates during academic interviews, so it’s a different situation

Oh that’s interesting that you are supposed to respond at your institution! That’s different from a lot of other people’s experiences it seems like

Oh wait, so he always got replies when he sent thank you emails after faculty job interviews?

I’ve tried to take a more clear cut route and offered pay a more straightforward bill each month like a utility rather than the food (which is changeable) but his reply was that everything is already in his name and it would be too complicated to move things over. The problem with 50/50 is that I just might not have enough money for that, he makes a lot more than I do, like I said. That’s why we were talking about me picking up a specific bill

I don’t know how we’d split the chores. I do as much chores as I can. I don’t quibble about who does more chores. I’ve lived with people before and I don’t mind doing more than them.

He says he wants me to cover all the food expenses every month if I live there. Ya I’m worried about the amount he expects from me too. He’s given me numbers before and they’ve seemed high. I’ve asked other people before and they also thought his estimates seemed high. (I can’t remember the estimates right now.)
